It is November, and normally in November we wouldn’t see a lot of top golfers playing, but this year is different because the Masters is next week. Many of the world’s top players are using the Houston Open to prep for next week’s Masters, including World No. 1 Dustin Johnson. He is joined by Brooks Koepka, Tyrrell Hatton, Tony Finau, among others. Let’s look at Houston Open odds and picks.

This will be the first time the PGA Tour has held an event at Memorial Park Golf Course since 1963. It is a par 71 that measures 7,021 yards. The course was redesigned by Tom Doak with help from Brooks Koepka. The course has had some fairways widened and trees removed.

Favorite
Dustin Johnson 7-1
It is hard to know what to expect from DJ this week, as he hasn’t played since getting the virus. We know that when he is on his game, he is the best player in the world, but how rusty will he be, as he has not played in seven weeks. I rarely take favorites and I am not backing Johnson at this number. Maybe he gets his game back quickly, but I can’t take him off a layoff and at this short number.
Value Plays
Tony Finau 20-1
This course in Houston features five par 5’s and the course is known for wide fairways. We know that Finau can hit the ball a ton and I like his chances this week. Finau doesn’t win nearly as often as he should, but this is not a field where every top player is in the field. It is also not a pressure packed event and that fact should help Finau. I think he has value at 20-1.
Russell Henley 22-1
It is completely unfair that Henley is not in next week’s Masters and he may just take it out on everyone this week and get another win. He has played well in Houston in the past and even though this event is being held at a different course, I expect Henley to be extremely focused this week and we get him at odds of better than 20-1.
Si-Woo Kim 55-1
You never can tell when Kim will show up with a big week, but he should have a chance this week. He lives in Dallas, so he is not far from his home. He won’t have to worry about missing many fairways this week and he has won on bermudagrass courses just like this one. I will take a flyer on Kim at these odds.
James Hahn 60-1
I am going to throw in one line move play this week, as I noticed that bettors were backing Hahn as a longshot. His odds have dropped from 80-1 to 60-1 and that is enough for me to take a chance on him this week.
Stewart Cink 80-1
You have to like the form of Cink right now, as he has a win, a tie for 12th and a tie for 4th when his son has been his caddy. Cink has been the top player on the PGA Tour since the restart in par 3 performance. There are five par 3’s on this Houston Course. I think Cink is a live longshot this week.
