The European Tour concludes their season with the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Patrick Reed is the favorite to win this event and he is the leader in the Race to Dubai. Reed figures to get some competition as some big names are joining him in this event including Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa and last week’s winner Viktor Hovland. I am coming off a 3-1 week with the matchups at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Let’s look at DP World Tour Championship Matchup picks.

Golf Matchup Picks

Patrick Reed -125 vs. Tyrrell Hatton

I said in the odds preview that I liked Reed’s chances of getting the win, so it makes sense I like him in this matchup against Hatton. Reed almost always plays well under pressure and he really wants to win the Race to Dubai. He has also played well in this event in the past with a couple of ties for 10th and a tie for 2nd. Hatton is a good player but this is more of a play on Reed than it is against Hatton. I’ll lay the small price and take Reed.

Tommy Fleetwood -125 vs. Matthew Fitzpatrick

Fleetwood almost always plays well in the desert. He won the 2017 and 2018 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. He finished second in the DP World Tour Championship last year and this will be his seventh appearance on the Earth Course. Fleetwood has been playing more on the PGA Tour this season than the European Tour, but he has finished tied for 13th or better in four starts on the Tour this year. I know that Fitzpatrick loves this course, but I still don’t think it fits his game and regardless, Fleetwood is the better player. I will take him in this matchup against Fitzpatrick.

Jordan Smith -125 vs. Callum Shinkwin

Smith has done well in the desert in the past and he played well in this event two years ago. He should thrive off the tee in this event and if his putter can cooperate, he could be in the mix this week. Smith loves playing this course and he looks like the clear choice in this matchup against Shinkwin.

Robert MacIntyre -115 vs. Matt Wallace

MacIntyre hits the ball long and straight so he figures to do well this week. "Actually I quite like the golf course. I don't find it as difficult as I'm making it look," he said to the media. There are not many players on the European Tour playing as well as MacIntyre and I expect him to have a strong week. I will take MacIntyre in this matchup.

Tom Lewis -135 vs. Robert Rock

This is the one line move play of the week for me, as there has been some money on Lewis this week to win this event. That seems like a bit of a stretch, but I’ll still take Lewis in this matchup against Rock.
