The RBC Heritage follows the Masters Tournament on the PGA Tour schedule and this year it begins April 12-15, 2018. The event is one of the oldest on the PGA Tour dating back to 1969.
Harbour Town Golf Links will host this year’s event and is a lost treasure of a course. Established in 1969, the 7,000 yard layout has withstood the test of time and remains one of the better tracks on the PGA Tour. It’s a par-71, old school course that requires accuracy off the tee and a great short game. The greens at Harbour Town are the smallest on the PGA Tour.
Last year Wesley Bryan picked up his first PGA Tour win by holding off Luke Donald by a stroke. It appeared Donald was on his way to his first ever plaid jacket after finishing runner-up a record five times, but critical bogey’s around the turn sealed his fate as Bryan held steady and picked up the win in his rookie season.
Davis Love III holds the record with five wins at Harbourtown. Other notable champions include Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Hale Irwin, Johnny Miller, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Nick Price and Jim Furyk.
Preview: The first major is in the books after Patrick Reed captured last week’s Masters Tournament by a stroke over Rickie Fowler. This week the PGA Tour travels to Hilton Head, South Carolina for the 50th RBC Heritage. The betting field has seven of the top 25 in the world rankings, highlighted by the No. 1 ranked Dustin Johnson who makes a rare visit to Harbour Town, in fact, it’s been almost a decade since DJ’s last appearance here. The Harbour Town Golf Links course in Hilton Head is one of the tour's best. It is a true test of a golfer's game and anyone participating should expect a thorough examination.
As the title of the course suggests it is links in style and can be very heavily affected by the wind. It is a well balanced track that never really allows the players to relax and attack the pins.
It is very short at less than 7,000 yards but who needs long holes when you have such beautifully constructed holes as this? Rest assured it will play tough and like many a decent course expect the 18th on the final day to play well over par.
Rookie Wesley Bryan carded a final-round 67 to win the RBC Heritage by one shot from England's Luke Donald at Hilton Head in South Carolina.
The 27-year-old held off Donald, who shot a three-under 68 and finished one back on 12 under par - his fifth second-place finish at the tournament.
Donald hit three birdies in four holes down the back nine but South Carolina-born Bryan took his first PGA title.
England's Ian Poulter shot 73 on Sunday to finish in an 11-way tie for 11th.
Bryan, who birdied four consecutive holes on the front nine and secured the lead with a birdie on the 15th, became the first native South Carolinian to win the Heritage in its 49-year history.
