When: December 27, 2017 - 9:00pm ET / ESPN
Location: NRG Stadium - Houston, Texas
Who: Texas Longhorns vs Missouri Tigers
It almost seems strange that Missouri is favored in the Texas Bowl over the Longhorns. After all, this game is played in Houston, a de facto home away from home for the Horns, and most of the crowd in attendance is going to be in burnt orange.
Still, one look at Missouri's form at the end of the season, and you can tell what the oddsmakers were thinking.
It'll be a hit for the Tigers to have lost OC Josh Heupel for this game to UCF to be its next head coach, but Drew Lock was excellent this year down the stretch. After starting at 1-5, the 'Zou rolled off six straight wins to end the season, though it should be noted that there wasn't a single bowl team in the bunch that it beat.
Tom Herman's first year in Texas was far from a dream. The Horns went just 6-6 and were truly no better than they were under Charlie Strong before that.
A 51-41 loss to lowly Maryland to start the season was a sign of things to come. The team did lose twice in overtime in games that probably should have been won against USC and Oklahoma State, and the whole perception of the year would have been different had either game gone differently.
Then again, had Kansas State beaten the Longhorns in Austin, a game that was decided in overtime and won by the hosts, we wouldn't even be talking about Texas right now and would be asking just how hot Herman's seat was going into just his second year on the job.
The similarities here are amazing. In Strong's first season, Texas went 6-6 and lost the Texas Bowl. Now, here we are again after two straight years of the Horns not being in a bowl game for Herman to try to claim UT's first bowl win since 2012.
Missouri has won three straight bowl games that it has played. The team hasn't been in a bowl since the 2014 Citrus Bowl.
Opening Line: Missouri -1.5
Preview: It could be a shootout in the Texas Bowl on Wednesday, December 27 between the Texas Longhorns and Missouri Tigers on ESPN. The Longhorns come into this game averaging just over 29 points per game, while the Tigers are putting up more than 39 per contest. There has been some definite line movement on this game since the odds were released, as the Tigers opened as 1.5-point favorites and they are now a 3-point choice and the total opened at 59 and it is now up to 60.5.
