The 82 games it takes to whittle the NHL field from 30 teams down to 16 is intense as it is. But it feels like every single season, the real fun begins in April when the NHL playoffs kick off. There is no such thing as an easy series, and every single game turns out to be a super grind. Games are decided on a knife's edge, and no matter if you're a No. 1 seed or the last team that sneaks into the show, you've got a show if you can catch some fire.
Who will get in to play for the Stanley Cup? No worries, Gamblers Palace has you covered with top NHL Stanley Cup contenders, not to mention NHL previews for each and every week.
The first puck of the Stanley Cup Playoffs will drop on April 11, 2018 and there will certainly be some exciting first round betting action.
Keep checking back for matchups featuring your favorite teams as the dates get closer and the regular season wraps up.
Let's take a look at the updated NHL playoff picture as of this week.
The Steel City is set to be the home of the Stanley Cup for the second consecutive season. The Pittsburgh Penguins are the first back-to-back champs in the NHL since the 1997 and 1998 Detroit Red Wings. They're the first back-to-back Cup winners in the salary cap era, a true testament to the work of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin as the leaders of this team. Sid the Kid and Crosby will be back next year once again, and that's what will surely make the Pens the ones to beat once again. They're the Stanley Cup favorites in 2018 at a price of +850, but that isn't nearly an overwhelming price by any stretch of the imagination.
Free agency and the trading that takes place over the course of the offseason is always crazy in the NHL, but this year, there's another level of madness with the expansion draft for the Vegas Golden Knights. Teams are going to ripped apart for sure to help stock the roster in Sin City, and rumors are already swirling about who might be headed that way. Could the Capitals really leave Alexander Ovechkin unprotected? Will Marc-Andre Fleury be the first member of the Golden Knights? It's all going to be interesting to see play out. We do know one thing though, and that's that we would be willing to at least give Vegas a shot at 200 to 1 to win the Stanley Cup.
Let's remember that the Nashville Predators were the 16th of the 16 teams in the playoffs this year, and they were two wins away from the Stanley Cup. If home ice advantage proves to be a real thing for the Golden Knights, they could have the same sort of boon as teams like Winnipeg, Edmonton and Nashville who have had such great success on their home ice in games that really matter.
For good measure, Nashville opens up the 2017-18 season as the co-fourth choice on the Stanley Cup odds at 15 to 1.
The most interesting teams are clearly the Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bolts didn't even make the playoffs in 2017, while the Oilers felt like they took some massive strides in the right direction. Both of these teams are young, have great goaltending and feel like they could be set to go on awesome runs. It's not hard to justify when they're the co-second favorites along with Washington at +1000 to win the Stanley Cup, but we could also argue that it's impossible to bet on any team at that low of a price this early in the proceedings.
Pittsburgh Penguins +850
Edmonton Oilers +1000

The Stanley Cup is the final series of postseason games of the National Hockey League.
The Stanley Cup is won by winning four of seven games played between the champions of the Western and Eastern Conferences. The Stanley Cup is the trophy awarded to the team who wins the Finals.
That team's members are inscribed on the cup itself, and the team keeps the cup until another team wins the finals, at the earliest the following year.
The Stanley Cup is also known as "the Cup", "the Holy Grail" or ironically, "Lord Stanley's Mug".
The trophy itself was donated in 1892 by the Governor General of Canada, Lord Stanley, to the top-ranked amateur hockey team in Canada. With various league expansions and consolidations, the Stanley Cup has become the oldest sports trophy in North America and the highest ice hockey honor in the world.
The Stanley Cup Finals games are played at the respective home arenas of the two final teams competing for the championship. The team with the better regular season record receives the home ice advantage in the Stanley Cup Finals, and hosts games 1, 2, 5, and 7, whereas the team without that advantage hosts games 3, 4, and 6.
