CFP National Championship Odds - College Bowl Game Standings

The 2016-17 bowl season is condensed quite a bit this season, as there are no New Year's Day bowl games due to the fact that the NFL controls the action on Sundays. That said, there are 40 games spread over what many college football fans call the best 16 days of the entire year, and at the end of it all comes the National Championship Game on January 9 between either Alabama or Washington and either Clemson or Ohio State.

This years College Bowl schedule begins with the Gildan New Mexico Bowl on Saturday Dec. 17 and this year the College Playoff Semifinals will split contenders between the Cotton Bowl and the Capital One Sugar Bowl.

The two teams to emerge from the NCAA semifinals will advance to the 2017 CFP National Championship game held in Raymond James Stadium, Tampa on Jan. 9, 2017 at 8:30pm ET on ESPN. Continue

AFR Celebration Bowl

The unofficial start to the 2016 bowl season actually doesn't involve any of the FBS teams. The two HBCU conferences from the FCS, the SWAC and the MEAC send their champions to the AFR Celebration Bowl on an annual basis. This bowl game in Atlanta has been wildly popular in the HBCU community and is expected to once again have a tremendous following in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome this year in the duel between the MEAC champion North Carolina Central Eagles and the SWAC champion Grambling State Tigers.Continue

NCAA Football Bowl Game History

College football teams generally play 11 games during the fall. The best of these college football teams are awarded trips to bowl games in which the season's finest teams go head to head.

These bowl games, rather than a single championship game, conclude the season. This tradition of college football dates all the way back to 1902,  when Stanford University challenged the University of Michigan for a New Year's Day contest, in Pasadena, California.

This event later became known as the now-famous Rose Bowl.

This bowl game and many others now serve as the climax of the college season. Today, the champion college football team is chosen by national polls of coaches and sports analysts.

Some challenge the validity of this method of selecting the champion team. Others support the selection process, claiming that a lengthy playoff season would detract from academics.

College football has enthralled spectators throughout its history and promises to provide fans with exciting matches for years to come.

We hope you enhance your enjoyment of the game by making use of our secure, online football betting sportsbooks. It's easy, safe, and a whole lot of fun.
