Saratoga Race Course is a 360-acre track with a relatively short six-week racing season that starts every summer in late July and ends in early September - always on Labor Day.
For six short weeks, the best thoroughbreds in training assemble on the small town of Saratoga Springs in New York, to race before huge crowds at the grandmother of America's horse tracks.
Post time is 1 pm daily except Tuesdays (the "dark" day). Gates open at 11 am on weekdays and 10:30 am on weekends, except for Travers day when they open at 7 am.
This years Saratoga horse betting action begins on July 20, 2018 with an Opening Day Celebration and concludes with the $350,000 Hopeful Stakes on closing day, Monday, September 3.
This year the Saratoga race track will feature a record $17.45 million in stakes purses, topped by the Grade 1 $1.5 million Whitney Handicap on Whitney Festival Day, Saturday, August 5 and the Grade 1 $1.25 million Travers Stakes on Aug. 25, 2018.
After Labor Day, New York thoroughbred horse racing moves back to Belmont and Aqueduct, as the Saratoga race course stays quiet again for another year.
