Outback Bowl Prediction - NCAA Wolverines Vs Gamecocks Football Odds

When: Monday, Jan. 1, 2018 - 1 p.m. / ABC

Where: Tampa, FL - Raymond James Stadium

Who: Michigan Wolverines vs. South Carolina Gamecocks

There was a point this year that many wondered if Michigan had a shot to contend for the National Championship. The team looked great at 4-0 with wins over Florida, Cincinnati, Air Force and Purdue, but Michigan State pulled off an upset at the Big House, and the season fell apart from there.

The Wolverines finished with four losses, and one has to wonder if Jim Harbaugh is losing this team just a bit. It's not that losses to the Spartans, Penn State, Wisconsin and Ohio State are that bad. It's just that Michigan was clearly the fifth-best team in a Big Ten conference that got left out of the College Football Playoff, and that just flat out isn't good enough in Ann Arbor.

South Carolina had a great season by its own standards. Sure, the team didn't beat Georgia, but the only games it lost from October on came against the Bulldogs and Clemson, two teams playing in the CFP. There's no shame in either loss.

The win the Gamecocks picked up to start the season against N.C. State looks really good now, as does that win over Missouri. There are still a lot of offensive concerns for South Carolina, but this defense is about as nasty as it gets in the SEC this side of Alabama.

South Carolina is attempting to win its first bowl game since the 2014 Independence Bowl.

Michigan, which has 28 wins over the course of its first three seasons with Harbaugh at the helm, has split bowl games in the Citrus Bowl and the Orange Bowl these last two campaigns.

Outback Bowl Game Prediction - Michigan Wolverines vs. South Carolina Gamecocks

Opening Line: Michigan -8.5

Preview: The first of the New Year’s Day bowl games has the Michigan Wolverines taking on the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Outback Bowl on ESPN 2. Why the Outback Bowl is schedule for New Year’s Day is a mystery, as it goes up against the Peach Bowl and the Citrus Bowl, both of which feature ranked teams. The Wolverines were a massive disappointment this season under Jim Harbaugh, as they finished 8-4, while South Carolina finished 8-4 for Will Muschamp. Continue...

Outback Bowl Betting Tips

One of the first things to look for when examining the college football bowl odds is the current form of the teams. Some teams are coming into the bowl game playing very well, while others are coming in flat or disappointed.

Motivation is a big key factor when it comes to looking at college football bowl betting lines, we also have to look at other things.

Schedule strength, turnovers, recent form, and overall team power ratings are things to consider as the bowl games begin. You also want to take the individual game odds into consideration.

Outback Bowl history

The Outback Bowl, originally known as the Hall of Fame Bowl, has celebrated nineteen years in Tampa.

Over the years Tampa Bay area fans have seen some great matchups. Here's a brief look back at the history of this great New Year's Day tradition.

In 1995, when Outback Steakhouse became the sponsor. The bowl currently offers a matchup between the SEC and Big 10.

2013 Outback Bowl Recap

It was a dog fight until the final play, but when the final whistle blew, No. 14 LSU celebrated a 21-14 victory over the University of Iowa football team in the 2014 Outback Bowl inside Raymond James Stadium.

LSU's Jeremy Hill was tabbed the Outback Bowl MVP after rushing for 216 yards and two touchdowns, carrying the load for an Tiger offense that was without the services of starting quarterback Zach Mettenberger. Freshman signal caller Anthony Jennings completed 7-of-19 attempts for 82 yards in his starting debut.

2012 Outback Bowl Winner

The Michigan State Spartans definitely know how to win like a team as demonstrated in the 2012 Outback Bowl against the Georgia Bulldogs in a triple overtime thriller.

They rallied with each other to fill the holes as they happen such as Kirk Cousins throwing 3 interceptions but Darqueze Dennard helping out with a pick-6 in the third quarter to bring them within 2 points.

The super thrill of this game was when Kirk Cousins had to drive almost the entire football field in less than two minutes to tie this game with a touchdown. Now that is serious heart and a great way to close his college football career.
