Outback Bowl Football Prediction - NCAA Florida Vs Iowa Bowl Odds

Bet Outback Bowl Game PredictionsVenue: Outback Bowl Game

When: Monday, Jan. 2, 2017 - 1 p.m. / ABC

Where: Tampa, FL - Raymond James Stadium

Who: Florida Gators vs. Iowa Hawkeyes

Last Years Game Result: Tennessee 45, Northwestern 6

Tampa has just about everything a bowl game could want. It's got a hockey team to go watch in January, it's got a ton of theme parks, it's got great weather... And this year, it's got the Florida Gators. The residents of the Swamp are taking the short drive down I-75 to get to Raymond James Stadium for this January 2 tussle that will serve as a prequel to the New Year's Six games going on that day. The game though, isn't going to be one for the faint of heart. Points are going to be at a premium against the Iowa Hawkeyes for sure, and it wouldn't be surprising if one or two touchdowns does the trick for either one of these teams.

These teams are trending in opposite directions at the moment. The Gators finished up their season by getting shellacked by both Florida State and Alabama, and they haven't scored more than 20 points in a game since October. Iowa meanwhile, has scored three straight wins and covers, including beating both Michigan and Nebraska, two teams which theoretically should have overmatched the Hawkeyes.

Outback Bowl history

The Outback Bowl, originally known as the Hall of Fame Bowl, has celebrated nineteen years in Tampa.

Over the years Tampa Bay area fans have seen some great matchups. Here's a brief look back at the history of this great New Year's Day tradition.

In 1995, when Outback Steakhouse became the sponsor. The bowl currently offers a matchup between the SEC and Big 10.

2013 Outback Bowl Recap

It was a dog fight until the final play, but when the final whistle blew, No. 14 LSU celebrated a 21-14 victory over the University of Iowa football team in the 2014 Outback Bowl inside Raymond James Stadium.

LSU's Jeremy Hill was tabbed the Outback Bowl MVP after rushing for 216 yards and two touchdowns, carrying the load for an Tiger offense that was without the services of starting quarterback Zach Mettenberger. Freshman signal caller Anthony Jennings completed 7-of-19 attempts for 82 yards in his starting debut.

2012 Outback Bowl Winner

The Michigan State Spartans definitely know how to win like a team as demonstrated in the 2012 Outback Bowl against the Georgia Bulldogs in a triple overtime thriller.

They rallied with each other to fill the holes as they happen such as Kirk Cousins throwing 3 interceptions but Darqueze Dennard helping out with a pick-6 in the third quarter to bring them within 2 points.

The super thrill of this game was when Kirk Cousins had to drive almost the entire football field in less than two minutes to tie this game with a touchdown. Now that is serious heart and a great way to close his college football career.
