Senators vs. Penguins Game 7 Preview:Craig Anderson was determined to make up for his mistakes in Game 5 and keep his Ottawa Senators alive for Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. He was flat out amazing in Game 6, stopping 45-of-46 shots against the mighty Pittsburgh Penguins, and that's why this series, once thought to be a complete and utter joke of an Eastern Conference Finals, has turned into an epic seven-game showdown. In the NHL playoffs, teams that get blown out in one game tend to have a different mentality in the next, and often times, the end result is a big rally to swing momentum the opposite direction. We've now seen it happen twice in this series. Mike Sullivan changed up all of his lines and switched goalies from Marc-Andre Fleury back to Matt Murray following a 5-1 loss in Game 3 of this series. Then after two convincing Penguins wins to push Ottawa to the brink, the Senators came back with vengeance, winning Game 6 2-1 in spite of the fact they were badly outplayed for much of the game. Things just seemed to start working in the second period for Ottawa while on a 5-on-3 power play. Bobby Ryan scored to level the score at 1-1 after an earlier Evgeni Malkin goal, and Craig Anderson effectively did the rest. He had to stop 23 shots in the second period alone and 45 for the game on 46 attempts, clearly making him the de facto MVP of the game. The job isn't done for the Senators from here, though. They've still got to figure out how to go on the road and finish off the Penguins. Pittsburgh is now just 2-4 in close out games this year, but it has obviously gone on to ultimately win both of its series where it got itself into a little bit of trouble. Most suspect the Penguins will be fine, but we know it's going to take some magic for either of these teams to survive Game 7 and move onto the Stanley Cup Finals.
Anaheim Ducks vs. Nashville Predators Series (Predators Win Series 4-2)
The Nashville Predators are headed to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in their history. They have clearly been the best team in the playoffs for our money, and they've gotten more out of less than any other team in the league in April and May. Remember that Nashville finished the regular season with the 16th most points in the NHL, and the fact that it's even here is remarkable. The names? Only the most diehard NHL fans will know them on the Predators. Colton Sissons made a name for himself in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals by logging the second playoff hat trick in the history of the Nashville franchise, while Filip Forsberg has already set a franchise record for goals in a single postseason with eight. It's been a remarkable run as well for Pekka Rinne. He's been a monster in this entire postseason and has the inside track to the Conn Smythe. His Game 6 numbers won't look impressive with 38 saves on 41 shots, but he was the difference maker on a night when Nashville managed a total of just 18 shots on goal, two of which went into empty nets late in the third. Now, it's off to the Stanley Cup Finals, and the hope will clearly be for Pittsburgh and Ottawa to go seven games to give the Preds a few extra days to rest up after a long and hard series against Anaheim. The Ducks deserve some credit for hanging in there in the third period, but in the end, the high-flying Predators parlayed with their home crowd were enough to advance to the season's final series.

Just remember that the NHL playoffs are always tough to gauge. Games are virtually always tight and down to the wire, and even if a team does get blown out, it’s still just one out of a possible seven games.
It’s difficult to see any series between any two teams ending in less than six games with as tight as this NHL season has been, and whichever team has more of those massive moments in clutch spots will end up as the last survivor.
NHL Playoff format
The NHL Playoff format is a set bracket that is largely division-based with wild cards. The top three NHL teams in each division will make up the first 12 teams in the NHL playoffs. The remaining four spots will be filled by the next two highest-placed finishers in each conference, based on regular-season record and regardless of division. It is possible for one division in each conference to send five teams to the postseason while the other sends just three.
