We're coming down to the wire of the 2018 NFL season, and there's still so much left to decide. Four of the eight division titles are still up for grabs, and there are tremendous NFL Wild Card games going on in both conferences. There are several teams hoping that Santa Claus leaves them a playoff spot in their stockings.
As we gear up for the Christmas holiday, the 2018 NFL betting season is coming to a close heading into Week 16. With the playoff hunt at a fever pitch, every game is must win for those in it to win it. There won’t be any game scheduled for Thursday over the next two weeks, and the final Monday Night Football telecast is slated to go this week as well.
Sunday offers up 15 matchups of NFL betting goodness with a number of notable battles lined up. The morning slate is comprised of 10 total games with divisional and non-conference battles set to go. From a divisional standpoint, the Bengals/Browns, Vikings/Lions, Bills/Patriots, and Falcons/Panthers are all set to lock horns. Notable non-conference matchups include the Giants heading to Indianapolis to oppose the Colts, and the Texans going into the City of Brotherly Love to tango with the defending champion Eagles.
Four games comprise the afternoon slate with Baltimore set to square off against the Chargers, the Bears invading Levi’s Stadium to run with Jimmy G and the 49ers, and the Rams heading to the desert to get it on with the Cardinals. The headliner finds Mike Tomlin’s Pittsburgh Steelers visiting the bayou for a likely shootout with Sean Payton’s New Orleans Saints. The franchises last met in 2014 in a game won by the Saints 35-32 as 4-point Heinz Field underdogs. NO has held serve at home the two times it hosted the Steelers since the turn of the century.
NBC will have a good one in store for us on Sunday Night Football when the Chiefs invade Seattle to battle the Seahawks in front of the “12th Man.” Kansas City has held the upper hand in the recent rivalry by winning each of the three meetings both straight up and against the spread dating back to 2006. They handed Pete Carroll’s team a 42-24 defeat as 2-point road chalk the last time they paid CenturyLink Field a visit back in 2010.
Closing the 2018 Monday Night Football slate out will be the AFC West rival Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders. These franchises loathe one another, so the “Black Hole” is sure to be an inhospitable place for Vance Joseph’s squad to venture into Monday night. These rivals have split their regular season matchups each of the last three seasons, but Oakland has held serve at home each of the last two.
If you don’t have the time or inclination to do much of any research leading up to the games, make it a point to read what our solid group of NFL writers has to say about the week’s slate. From daily free picks with analysis to live odds for every game on the Week 16 NFL betting board, we got you covered!
Houston Texans at Philadelphia Eagles, Lincoln Financial Field – 1 p.m. ET
Opening Line: Eagles -2, O/U 45
Preview: The Houston Texans are looking to claim a first round bye in the NFL playoffs for the first time in their 16-year history. Houston is currently in line to grab the No. 2 spot in the AFC, and the team is just one game behind Kansas City and the LA Chargers for the top spot. Homefield advantage throughout the playoffs would be great for this defense, and they are out to capitalize as much as they can. This week, they are out to clinch the AFC South when they take on the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Continue...
Baltimore Ravens at Los Angeles Chargers, StubHub Center – 4:25 p.m. ET
Opening Line: Los Angeles -4.5, 45
Preview: The Baltimore Ravens currently find themselves situated as the No. 6 seed in the AFC after holding serve at home against the Buccaneers, while the Los Angeles Chargers check in as the No. 5 seed even though they’re tied with the Chiefs for the best record in the conference. Kansas City gets the nod due to possessing a better divisional record. With both teams currently in the playoff picture, the stakes will be high when they collide under the Saturday night lights at top rated sportsbooks with each looking to better its chances at making a memorable postseason run. Continue...
Pittsburgh Steelers at New Orleans Saints, Mercedes-Benz Superdome – 4:25 p.m. ET
Opening Line: New Orleans -5.5, 52
Preview: A battle of conference heavyweights is set to go down at offshore sportsbooks in the Superdome Week 16 late Sunday afternoon when Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers invade the bayou for a run-in with Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. Sean Payton’s squad currently checks in as the NFC’s No. 1 seed and would lock that position down with a win in owning the tiebreaker over the Rams. Pittsburgh’s playoff picture is a bit murkier. A win in this game would do them a major solid with the Ravens, Colts and Titans all breathing down their neck. Continue...
Kansas City Chiefs at Seattle Seahawks, CenturyLink Field – 8:20 p.m. ET ( NBC )
Opening Line: Kansas City -2.5, 54
Preview: Since starting the season off a house afire for NFL bettors, regression has hit the Kansas City Chiefs like a ton of bricks. Andy Reid’s squad hasn’t covered the closing NFL odds since the beginning of November and has just one pointspread cover to its credit over the last seven games. Be that as it may, Patrick Mahomes and company enter their Week 16 trip to CenturyLink Field favored to defeat the Seattle Seahawks in front of the 12th Man under the lights of NBC’s Sunday Night Football telecast. Continue...
Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders, Oakland Coliseum – 8:15 p.m. ET ( ESPN )
Opening Line: Denver -3, 45
Preview: With games like Pittsburgh at New Orleans, Houston at Philadelphia, Atlanta at Carolina and Kansas City at Seattle on the Week 16 docket at NFL sportsbooks, you can’t help but wonder what the schedule makers were sniffing this past offseason to install the meeting between the Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders as the final Monday Night Football clash of the year. Seriously, WTF?! Be that as it may, let’s put the game under the microscope and see where we can attack it from a player’s prop perspective to make the end results even more beneficial and exciting. Continue...
