The NFL schedule was just announced and now it’s time for everyone to make their travel plans. The first week of action gives us some intriguing matchups and opportunities for teams to get revenge. Opening Lines are out for Week 1 already and with just one team at more than a touchdown favorite, we should have some close games.
Opening night of NFL kicks off Thursday Night, with the defending champion New England Patriots will be hosting the Kansas City Chiefs. The Patriots will be hoisting their fifth championship banner thanks to the combination of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick and have been unbeatable at home with these two. New England is 14-1 in its last 15 home openers.
Sunday gives us a full slate of games with the highlights coming later in the day. All eyes will be on the Seattle Seahawks taking on the Green Bay Packers in the late afternoon game and the Sunday Night Football game will give us the Dallas Cowboys hosting the team they couldn’t beat last year, the New York Giants.
This is the only week of the season where we will see two Monday Night Football games, so make sure to drink some coffee and have your excuses ready for being late to the office on Tuesday morning.

Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots, Gillette Stadium - 8:30 p.m. ET ( NBC )
Opening Line: Patriots -7, O/U 48
Preview: The last time we got to see the Kansas City Chiefs square off against the New England Patriots in Foxborough, it came in the Divisional Round of the 2016 Playoffs in a game the home team led throughout before pulling out the 27-20 win and cover before going on to fall to a Denver Broncos team that went on to win the Super Bowl. While this Week 1 tilt doesn’t hold nearly as much intrigue, it is both team’s season opener and will be televised live on national T.V. which means the betting handle is sure to be off the charts. Continue...
New York Jets at Buffalo Bills, Ralph Wilson Stadium - 1 p.m. ET ( CBS )
Opening Line: Bills -6, O/U 43
Preview: The New York Jets won a total of five games a year ago and not much improvement is expected from Todd Bowles’ squad in 2017-18 with their season win total the absolute lowest on the board at 3.5. However, two of those wins came against a Buffalo Bills team that cleaned house this past offseason due to not living up to ownership’s expectations. Two of the likely worst teams in the league will square off in Week 1 with little fanfare. Continue...
Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans, NRG Stadium - 1 p.m. ET ( CBS )
Opening Line: Texans -4.5, O/U 42
Preview: One of the reasons the Houston Texans won the AFC South in back-to-back years with 9-7 records was because it swept both meetings with the Jacksonville Jaguars. In doing so, Bill O’Brien has now busted the broom out on his division rival four times in the last five seasons. The betting public believes the Texans win streak moves to seven in a row in this Week 1 clash with Houston getting bet up to 5.5-point favorites after opening as 4.5-point chalk. Continue...
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns, FirstEnergy Stadium - 1 p.m. ET ( CBS )
Opening Line: Steelers -9.5, O/U 47.5
Preview: The Pittsburgh Steelers have had very little trouble disposing of the division rival Cleveland Browns with Mike Tomlin’s troops securing wins in eight of the last 10 meetings. The Browns almost put an end to their three-game losing streak in the recent rivalry in Week 17 of last season, but a number of Pittsburgh superstars sat that game out. They can expect to see Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell, and Antonio Brown in pads for this Week 1 tilt. Continue...
Arizona Cardinals at Detroit Lions, Ford Field - 1 p.m. ET ( FOX )
Opening Line: Lions -2.5, O/U 48
Preview: The last time the Arizona Cardinals paid a visit to the Motor City, they handed the Detroit Lions an embarrassing 42-17 one-sided defeat in the fifth week of the 2015-16 season. The year Bruce Arians’ squad took the NFC by storm. This time around, the Detroit Lions were one of the surprise teams that will take the field looking to prove last season wasn’t an anomaly. This should be one of the more entertaining Week 1 matchups with both sides having much to prove. Continue...
Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals, Paul Brown Stadium - 1 p.m. ET ( CBS )
Opening Line: Bengals -2, O/U 42.5
Preview: Two teams coming off extremely disappointing seasons are set to collide on the gridiron in Week 1 when the AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals get it on in the ‘Natti. Marvin Lewis’ squad has dominated the recent proceeding coming out on top in six of the last seven skirmishes, and it’s almost been perfect the last five times it hosted this rivalry winning each and managing an impressive 4-1 record against the closing pointspread. Continue...
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Miami Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium - 1 p.m. ET ( CBS )
Opening Line: Dolphins -3, O/U 47
Preview: It’s still to be determined at the time of this writing as to whether the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins will even be able to get their Week 1 tilt in this weekend due to Hurricane Irma. What we do know is that the game will for sure not be taking place at Hard Rock Stadium. It will either be played at a neutral venue or later in the season. Both teams share Week 11 byes, so it’s very possible the game is postponed until then. Continue...
Atlanta Falcons at Chicago Bears, Soldier Field - 1 p.m. ET ( FOX )
Opening Line: Falcons -7, O/U 50.5
Preview: The Atlanta Falcons will take the field in Week 1 looking to become the first team in 24 years to return to the Super Bowl a year removed from losing it. They’ll look to take their first step towards achieving that feat in Week 1 when they invade Soldier Field to battle an improved Chicago Bears team that will be out to quickly turn the page on a gross 3-13 campaign that saw it bring up the rear of the NFC North standings for a third straight season. Continue...
Oakland Raiders at Tennessee Titans, LP Field - 1 p.m. ET ( CBS )
Opening Line: Raiders -1.5, O/U 51.5
Preview: The Oakland Raiders saw their 2016-17 campaign end in a thud in the wild card round at Houston. The loss certainly put a damper on a regular season that saw the silver and black dramatically improve. The Tennessee Titans also took a step forward a season ago winning nine games after managing only three in Marcus Mariota’s rookie season. With both sides on the up and up, this Week 1 tilt in Nashville is certain to be competitive until the bitter end. Continue...
Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins, FedExField - 1 p.m. ET ( FOX )
Opening Line: Redskins -3, O/U 48.5
Preview: A couple of teams with something to prove are set to collide in Week 1 when the Carson Wentz led Philadelphia Eagles invade the nation’s capital to square off against Kirk Cousins and the NFC East rival Washington Redskins. The Eagles dropped both meetings to the Skins last season to fall to 1-5 straight up and 0-6 against the spread in the last six meetings. The Redskins have taken each of the last five meetings, and if that streak extends to six, the hyped up Eagles will have some work to do in the division. Continue...
Indianapolis Colts at Los Angeles Rams, L.A. Memorial Coliseum – 4:05 p.m. ET ( FOX )
Opening Line: Colts -3, O/U 47
Preview: The first afternoon game of the 2017-18 NFL season will have NFL bettors dumbfounded with what to do. Back the Indianapolis Colts with Scott Tolzien at the helm, or throw their money down on Jared Goff and a Los Angeles Rams team that did nothing but cost their wagering supporters dearly a short season ago? If you have to pick a side in one of the uglier matchups on the Week 1 schedule, you might be better off just flipping a coin and putting nothing more than beer money on the game. Continue...
Seattle Seahawks at Green Bay Packers, Lambeau Field - 4:25 p.m. ET ( FOX )
Opening Line: Packers -3, O/U 49
Preview: By far the best matchup of the Week 1 afternoon slate is set to go down on the not so frozen tundra of Lambeau Field where the Green Bay Packers will open their respective 2017-18 campaign against the Seattle Seahawks. These teams played to a one-sided woodshed type affair a season ago with the Packers coming out on top 38-10 as 3-point home underdogs. They’re the chalk this time around, and will be out to cover their fourth straight against the Seahawks. Continue...
Carolina Panthers at San Francisco 49ers, Levi's Stadium - 4:25 p.m. ET ( FOX)
Opening Line: Panthers -3.5, O/U 48
Preview: The Carolina Panthers were the toast of the NFC a couple years back in tallying a 15 win season and representing the conference in the Super Bowl. Ron Rivera’s squad suffered an extreme hangover last season which saw the Panthers win just six games to bring up the rear of the NFC South. Oddsmakers still expect Cam Newton and company to be a viable threat in the division once again ( +244 ), and they’ll look to live up to those expectations in Week 1 when they battle the rebuilding San Francisco 49ers. Continue...
New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium - 8:30 p.m. ET ( NBC )
Opening Line: Cowboys -6.5, O/U 49
Preview: The Dallas Cowboys will take the field in Week 1 looking to avenge a pair of defeats to the New York Giants from last season that dropped them to 0-3 straight up in the rival’s last three overall meetings. There are some unknowns entering this clash for both sides. Ezekiel Elliott’s appeal is still under consideration, while Odell Beckham Jr. is still nursing the ankle injury he incurred during the preseason. Smart money has the latter suiting up for this one with the former situated on the sidelines. Continue...
New Orleans Saints at Minnesota Vikings, U.S. Bank Stadium – 7:10 p.m. ET ( ESPN )
Opening Line: Vikings -3.5, O/U 47.5
Preview: One of the best offenses in the game is set to square off against one of the best defenses in the game in the first of two ESPN Monday Night football telecasts in Week 1 when the New Orleans Saints square off against the Minnesota Vikings. It’s almost like the schedule makers knew Adrian Peterson would bolt for New Orleans this past offseason with the Vikings first up on the schedule. Who made the schedule, Nostradamus?! Regardless, don’t look for the Vikings to welcome one of the franchise’s former stars back home. Continue...
Los Angeles Chargers at Denver Broncos, Sports Authority Field – 10:20 p.m. ET ( ESPN )
Opening Line: Broncos -5, O/U 44
Preview: Week 1 of the 2017-18 NFL season closes out in the Mile High City where another chapter of the AFC West rivalry between the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos will play out in the second leg of ESPN’s Monday Night Football doubleheader. Fans of both squads will be eager to see this one play out with each team undergoing mass changes at the personnel level. Anthony Lynn is now calling the shots in LA, while defense oriented Vance Joseph takes over for Gary Kubiak who was forced to retire due to health concerns. Continue...
