Who: Dallas Cowboys Vs Arizona Cardinals
When: Thursday, Aug. 3, at 8 p.m. ET
Where: Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio
The time between the Super Bowl and the start of the NFL season is a long slog of six months for bettors. But the first glance of action at the NFL board of the 2017 season is just a couple months away at the Hall of Fame Game.
This year, the Hall of Fame Game will be hoping to avoid the same indignation that came from last season when the game was canceled due to terrible field conditions. The Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals are scheduled to play in the game.
Dallas will be bringing a mostly veteran offense into the Hall of Fame Game, and that should give it a bit of an advantage. That said, quarterback play behind Dak Prescott is weak, and Kellen Moore, Zac Dysert and rookie Cooper Rush figure to play basically this entire game.
Arizona will surely want to give rookie Trevor Knight some looks in his first ever game under center, but Drew Stanton and Blaine Gabbert could be given a bunch of time as well. Just don't expect to see much of the aging Carson Palmer, who has been here and done this in the preseason time and time again.
The last time the Cardinals were in this game in 2012, Kevin Kolb was their projected starting quarterback. Kolb suffered a rib injury in the game and was flat out never the same again. The Cards were beaten by the Saints 17-10. The next season, Bruce Arians was hired to take over for the fired Ken Whisenhunt.
Jason Garrett coached in the Hall of Fame Game once back in 2010, and he elected to leave both Tony Romo and his backup on the bench for the entire night, allowing third- and fourth-stringers to play the entire game. Dallas beat the Bengals 16-7 in what amounted to be one of the uglier Hall of Fame Games in history. It was the first time Garrett was the head coach in a game in his career.
Dallas Cowboys vs. Arizona Cardinals, Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, 8 p.m. ET (NBC)
Betting Line: Cowboys -1, O/U 36.5
Preview: Hopefully, we will have a Hall of Fame Game this year. Last season’s edition was canceled after it became evident that the playing surface was unplayable. The paint that was being used for the field had congealed and become hard, making the end zones and logos a threat to player safety. This season, the logos were actually stitched into the playing surface, making everything that much safer again. The hope now is that the weather cooperates so we can see the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals square off. Continue...
