The Los Angeles Rams completed the turnaround and claimed their first division title since 2003 with a win over Tennessee on Sunday. The job Sean McVay has done can’t be overlooked when voting for coach of the year begins. The rookie coach has made all the right moves and we’ll see if his next decision pays off. McVay has already said that Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald, among others, will not play when the Rams take the field for Sunday’s regular season finale against the 49ers.
That should bolster Jimmy Garoppolo’s chances for a big payday this offseason. Garoppolo has turned the fortunes of the franchise with his stellar play, leading the Niners to four straight wins since taking over as the team’s starter. During those games, Garoppolo has thrown for 1,250 yards and has completed nearly 69 percent of his passes, looking like the perfect fit for Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
Not to burst the Niners’ balloon, but Garoppolo faced two horrible teams in Houston and Chicago, and the Jags were going through the motions last week after learning that they won the AFC South title. Garoppolo’s been good, but can he do it when the games count? We’ll have to wait until next season to find out because Sunday’s contest will be a glorified exhibition game.
The Seahawks kept their playoff hopes alive with a win over the Cowboys last Sunday and they need to finish off the Cardinals and hope for an Atlanta loss this week to extend their streak of consecutive playoff appearances to six. Seattle turned in a vintage defensive performance reminiscent of the Legion of Boom to defeat Dallas 21-12. It was a much needed effort after the group was scolded for 72 points in losses to Jacksonville and Los Angeles the previous two games. The Cards have won three of four games in Seattle under Bruce Arians, so it won’t be a pushover.

The Seattle Seahawks 2016 season came to a resounding halt versus the red-hot Atlanta Falcons.
Head Coach Pete Carroll summed up the season perfectly, “We never found the consistency of our execution throughout the course of the year, for a variety of reasons.” Carroll went on to tell 710 ESPN Seattle, “We were good enough to win a division, we were good enough to win enough games to get there and all of that, but we never got our roll going.” Continue
The Arizona Cardinals made it to the NFC Championship game in 2015 but took a step back a season ago, falling to 7-8-1 and missing the playoffs. Quarterback Carson Palmer and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald both contemplated retirement in the offseason, so it seems as if the championship window is closing with those two players as main cogs. The Cardinals had a lot of turnover on the defensive side of the ball but talent remains. This is a team that can bounce back, although key veterans must stay healthy and perform. Continue
The Los Angeles Rams don’t have high expectations in 2017, as steady progress would be a welcome sight even if it doesn’t result in a bunch of wins. Los Angeles is young at several positions and may have one of the worst offenses in the NFL this season.
While the team has low expectations, there are a couple of key pieces that will be watched closely. Quarterback Jared Goff and running back Todd Gurley have yet to break out in the NFL and they hope to show that they are deserving of their high draft picks in 2017. Continue
The San Francisco 49ers finished the 2016 season undefeated against the Los Angeles Rams. Unfortunately for Trent Baalke and coach Chip Kelly, who were both fired at the beginning of this week, the ‘Niners went winless against the rest of the NFL. The team lacked talent and what talent the team did have got injured, especially on the defensive side of the ball. NaVorro Bowman, Eric Reid and Arik Amsted all suffered season ending injuries, with Bowman’s having the biggest impact as he was the heart and soul of the defense. Continue
