The Philadelphia Eagles are the only NFC East team that hasn’t won a Super Bowl and they are the only division team that will be competing in this season’s playoffs. Their chances may have taken a hit when Carson Wentz went down a few weeks ago, but the Eagles secured the No. 1 overall seed in the conference with a win over the Raiders on Monday night, making sure the path to Minnesota in early February goes through the City of Brotherly Love.
With the top seed locked up, the Eagles can afford to rest some players in Sunday’s finale against the Cowboys. But expect to see Nick Foles get some reps, because he needs them. And that puts Doug Pederson in a tight spot. Foles has started the last two games in place of Wentz and he struggled against the Raiders. It would be nice to get him some reps, but the way quarterbacks have gone down this season, the risk of an injury is there. It’s bad enough the Eagles lost Wentz during his MVP-caliber season, but if Foles was to go down Nate Sudfield is next in line.
And the Eagles will be playing a disgruntled Dallas team that saw its playoff hopes end in last week’s loss to the Seahawks. Jason Garrett has no plans to sit any of his regulars so it’ll be up to the Eagles offensive line to slow down DeMarcus Lawrence, who has 14.5 sacks on the year and certainly has a bonus if he leads the league. Lawrence is a half-sack behind league-leader Chandler Jones. The Cowboys will also showcase Dez Bryant to any team that wants him. The Boys lived with Bryant’s antics when he was producing, but now that the numbers have fallen, Dez has worn out his welcome in Big D.
The season can’t end soon enough for the Giants, who secured the most losses in a single-season in franchise history when they dropped their 13th game of the season last week. And they did it in typical Giants style, failing to score a point with Eli Manning chucking a pair of interceptions. The Giants need a receiver and the Cowboys need a defensive back. How about an intra-division swap with Bryant and Eli Apple?

It’s not easy for a team to lose their star quarterback and still win 13 games, but that was the case for the Dallas Cowboys a year ago. Quarterback Dak Prescott filled in admirably and Zeke Elliott gave the running game a shot in the arm. Dallas returns those two players and many other standouts on offense.
The Cowboys’ playoff run ended earlier than expected a season ago but the pieces are in place for another impressive season. Dallas is the favorite to win the NFC East and is expected to be one of the chief contenders for the Super Bowl. Continue
The New York Giants went on a defensive spending spree before the 2016 season and it helped turn around the team’s fortunes. Now they are hoping the addition of a key player on offense will keep it rolling.
Wide receiver Brandon Marshall comes to town to team with Odell Beckham, Jr. as the main targets for quarterback Eli Manning. If the Giants’ offense picks it up in 2017 this team can really make a push for the NFC East championship, even with the Dallas Cowboys in the division. Continue
With a disappointing end to the season, the Washington Redskins have to erase the ‘what ifs’ and ‘could have beens,’ and look towards next season. The team needs to revamp the defense. Josh Norman was a big get prior to this season, however, he was the only defensive back on the Redskins that graded-out as above average per Pro Football Focus. With the Redskins ‘3-4’ scheme the team needs to get defensive backs that are sure tacklers and solid at the point of attack. The team also needs a play-making safety that allows the corners to play with confidence. Also, the pass rush, Chris Baker is a free-agent and maybe the only interior lineman worth keeping. And did we mention the linebackers, particularly the middle linebacker. Mason Foster can collect tackles but he is sorely lacking speed and flexibility in the middle. Continue
The Philadelphia Eagles were up and down a year ago but had some moments where they looked like a really good team. WIth Carson Wentz ready for his second season under center, the team believes it is on track to push for a postseason berth.
The Eagles have a good defense and added star wideout Alshon Jeffery to the fold to give Wentz an electric weapon on the outside. While the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants are seen as the class of the NFC East, don’t forget about this punchy underdog.
Philadelphia lost several close games a season ago and with a little more luck the playoffs could be a legitimate aspiration in 2017. Continue
