NCAA Texas A&M Aggies Odds - 2017 Aggies College Football Predictions

NCAA Texas AM Aggies Odds When Kevin Sumlin came to College Station back in 2012, he and Johnny Manziel took the Aggies on a magical ride that ended with an 11-2 record, an AT&T Cotton Bowl championship and a Heisman Trophy for Manziel. That season revived a fan base that had seen a lot of mediocrity over the decade before.

And it’s not that the Aggies have been bad in the four years since that season, it just hasn’t been great and good just won’t win conference titles in the SEC.

The Aggies have finished in the middle of the pack in the SEC the last few years, averaging 8-9 wins overall. They enter the season with some key pieces, but quite a few question marks as Sumlin looks to replicate the magic of his debut.

2016 Record: 8-5 SU, 4-9 ATS, 5-7-1 O/U

2017 Regular Season Win Total: 7

National Championship Odds: +11000

Odds To Win SEC: +5500

2016 Texas A&M Aggies Season Review

The Aggies started the 2016 season off very strong, going 6-0 over the first half of the year including three wins over ranked opponents. It looked, at that point, like the Aggies might be turning a corner.

But Texas A&M lost 33-14 to Alabama the next week and captured just two more wins the rest of the way to finish at 8-5. The Aggies went 4-4 against the tough SEC competition and lost 33-28 in the Texas Bowl to Kansas State.

The Aggies were in the top-40 in both points per game and points allowed in 2016, but three losses by seven points or fewer played a role in torpedoing their season. Texas A&M was ranked for most of the season but the lull at the end dropped it from the national polls.

2017 Texas A&M Aggies Season Outlook

The Aggies must replace a lot of talent this season including five NFL draft picks and still have not

decided on a starting quarterback. The offense still has a strong running back corps and a stud in promising and versatile young receiver Christian Kirk who is an asset on offense and special teams.

Kirk had 83 catches for 928 yards and nine touchdowns a season ago, while adding three punt return scores.

The defense will have a tough time replacing last year’s No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett, but does retain a strong secondary including safeties Armani Watts and Donovan Wilson.

The Aggies have a tough schedule again this season, opening on the road against UCLA and then facing powerhouses Alabama, Florida and Auburn, among others.

The quarterback position is the biggest issue. Senior Jake Hubenak may have the inside track, but freshmen Nick Starkel and Kellen Mond are also making their push. Texas A&M is a talented team that can be a player in the SEC, but if the quarterback play is not solid it will severely limit the team’s ability to put together a big season.
