After a powerful Seven months and 82 games all roads lead up to the NBA Finals.
NBA basketball fans will watch 16 teams fighting to win 16 games to become the next team to try to embrace the NBA Championship trophy.
The NBA offseason is a lot shorter than you think. The Golden State Warriors were only crowned champions in the middle of June, and just a few short months later, the 30 teams in the Association will be back on the court ready to make another run at the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
Of course, it's incredibly likely that there will be no drama once again for a fourth consecutive season. It's seems impossible at the moment to find a way that the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers don't face off again in the NBA Finals. The Dubs are -180 favorites to win it all for the third time in the last four seasons, while Cleveland is set at +350.
It's not like either of these teams are expected to get worse in the offseason. The main core for both clubs is going to be back together once again, and the only question for the Cavaliers is whether LeBron James is still going to be playing at this high of a level in 2017-18 as he did in 2016-17.
The list of challengers isn't growing either. The San Antonio Spurs are hoping to make a run at Chris Paul in the offseason, and if he's landed to replace an aging Tony Parker, they could end up as serious contenders. The Boston Celtics have the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, and they'll parlay that into either Markus Fultz or perhaps another superstar to try to challenge the Cavaliers. Still, at +1500 and +2000 respectively, it's hard to find a real case for either San Antonio or Boston to be in the NBA Finals, let alone actually win the last series if it gets there.
Any other team you bet on when it comes to the 2018 NBA Finals odds would be speculative at best. The Houston Rockets feel like they topped out this year and won't come close to justifying 50 to 1 odds in 2018, while the core of the Los Angeles Clippers could be broken up by the time next season rolls around. The Washington Wizards felt like the next closest team in the East, but they're set to be strapped under the salary cap and won't have much wiggle room to add a difference-making piece. The Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans are the trendy teams for 2018, but it still seems like there's at least 2-3 years of building left for both of these programs to be serious contenders.
A total of just four teams have odds to win the NBA Finals of less than 50 to 1, while just nine of the 30 are less than 100 to 1. The longest odds on the board belong to the Brooklyn Nets, Orlando Magic and Sacramento Kings, all of whom are 1,000 to 1 to win the NBA title next year.
