Chicago Bulls Basketball Report 2017 - NBA Chicago Bulls Betting Odds

Chicago-Bulls-Betting-ReportThe Chicago Bulls have been a middling team under Fred Hoiberg and they snuck into the playoffs last season despite winning one fewer game than the season before. The team took a drastic turn this offseason when they dealt their best player, Jimmy Butler, in a surprising move for a modest return. They mostly sat out of the free agent market and have decided to take a run with a lineup of younger players and Dwyane Wade. This new strategy is unlikely to get the Bulls back into the playoffs, but management apparently has its sights set on the future. However, the present will be bleak.

2016-17 Record: 41-41 SU, 42-40 ATS, 32-49 O/U

2017-18 Regular Season Win Total: 28.5

Odds To Win Eastern Conference: +50000

Odds To Win NBA Title: +150000

2016-17 Chicago Bulls Season Review

The Bulls brought in hometown favorite Wade and signed enigmatic Rajon Rondo to team with Butler in what could only be described as an alpha lineup. The moves looked good on paper, but the three never were in sync. Rondo was benched midway through the season, Wade dealt with an assortment of injuries and Butler was the man left to lead the club. He did his best and solidified his status as an All-Star, but there simply weren’t enough pieces around him.

The Bulls snuck into the playoffs with a 41-41 record and gave the top-seeded Celtics a scare by winning the first two games of the opening round on the road. However, the Bulls would drop the next four and the overhaul of the roster began.

Despite having three offensive stars the Bulls were inefficient on that end of the floor. Their spacing was bad and their three-point shooting was among the worst in the NBA. Butler was the only bright spot scoring 24 points with 6.2 rebounds per game and he was a valuable defender, often guarding the opponent’s top offensive player. But there never was any cohesion with the unit as 18 different players shuffled through the lineup.

2017-18 Chicago Bulls Season Outlook

The Bulls got younger with all their offseason moves. Wade and Anthony Morrow are the only players currently on the roster over the age of 30, and the core of the team is in its early- to mid-20s. But being young and being good are two completely different things. And it’s not like Butler was over the hill. He was right in the middle of his career and just starting to reach his potential. It was Butler who kept the Bulls in most games.

Wade will likely be the key piece as the younger players develop. At 35, Wade’s best days are behind him and injuries limited him to 60 games, but he’s really the only accomplished scorer on the team. Rondo’s departure leaves the point guard spot wide open. Kris Dunn, acquired from the Wolves in the Butler deal, will have a shot at taking the position. Dunn was Minnesota’s fifth overall pick in 2016 but played just 17 minutes a game last season and never had the chance to develop. He will have the opportunity in Chicago.

Zach LaVine was the centerpiece of the Butler trade and looks to recover from ACL surgery. He won’t be available once the season starts and there’s a question if he will be his explosive self once he does return. The Bulls also got the seventh pick in the draft and selected Lauri Markkanen, a 7-footer who can knock down the three. Don’t expect the Bulls to make a playoff push this season, the roster just isn’t set up for it. There are some youthful pieces and a high draft pick next year will be a hell of a lot more beneficial.
