Here at Gamblers Palace, our NBA Power Rankings are going to differ just a bit from the run-of-the-mill rankings you see on other websites. While those power rankings approach NBA teams from a statistical standpoint, we focus on the good stuff…gambling.
NBA Power Rankings at Gamblers Palace are exactly what the gambler needs. We take into account all the normal power ranking components such as offensive and defensive efficiencies, injuries, strength of schedule, rivalries, home-court advantage and coaches, but we compile all of those into a edge for the handicapper.
You will see that our NBA Power Rankings focus on each team’s win-loss record against the spread. We highlight good spots in the coming week to possibly play, or fade, a particular team. Our writers will highlight basketball teams on the rise, and on the decline.
NBA Power Rankings are updated weekly so you’ll want to check back every Monday for fresh information on how to bet the NBA.
Only two teams managed to produce undefeated records against the closing NBA odds last week; them being the Boston Celtics ( 2-0 ATS ) and Golden State Warriors ( 3-0 ATS ). It’s certainly within the realm of possibility that each squares off in the NBA Finals come June. That said; two of the best teams in the league have combined to sit two games under the break-even point for NBA bettors this season. Only seven of the top-10 teams in the NBA Power Rankings have amassed winning overall records to this point with two sitting over .500 by a game or less. With that, you have to dig deep to unearth winners against the spread in this league. Hopefully these rankings give the blue print to help you do just that. Let’s take a look at how all 30 teams stack up from a betting perspective heading into the ninth week of the regular season.
Dallas Mavericks (16-8 ATS) (LW: 1 ) The Mavs have been a text book example of a home/road dichotomy. As a host, Luka Doncic and company stand 11-2 SU and ATS. On the road, they’re 2-9 SU and 5-6 ATS. They went 2-1 ATS last week with the pair of wins coming at the American Airlines Center. Three of their four scheduled games come at home this week. You know what to do!
Charlotte Hornets (16-10 ATS)? (LW: 5 ) The Hornets dropped a 121-104 decision at Minnesota to kick off this past week, but followed it up with a pair of wins and covers against the Nuggets at home and Knicks on the road to procure a 2-1 ATS record. Charlotte’s no doubt headed in the right direction, but needs another premiere scorer to compliment Kemba Walker’s 25.9 points per game.
Los Angeles Clippers (15-10 ATS) (LW: 2 ) The Clip Joint falls a spot to the No. 3 slot after putting forth a losing mark against the linemakers this past week. That loss at home to Miami to close the week still stings. Three of Doc Rivers' squad’s next four games will be played away from the Staples Center where they’ve been nothing short of a .500 team in going 7-7 SU and ATS.
Memphis Grizzlies (15-10 ATS) (LW: 8 ) In playing to 15-10 records both SU and ATS at top rated sportsbooks, the Grizz currently sit atop the Southwest Division standings 1.5 games ahead of the surging Dallas Mavericks. They closed the week with an ugly loss to the Lakers and kick this week off with a tough test in the Pepsi Center against the Nuggets. They’ll then return home for three straight.
Sacramento Kings (15-10 ATS) (LW: 9 ) Though Big Sac is still conceding more points than it scores, it’s remained a relevant force in the Pacific Division sitting a game over .500 and only four games back of the defending champs. Sacramento isn’t winning anything this season, but the pieces do look to be in place with Buddy Hield and one of the youngest rosters in the league continuing to gel with one another.
Denver Nuggets (15-11 ATS) (LW: 7 ) After fizzling out at the tail end of their road trip in falling to Charlotte and Atlanta, the Nuggets return to Denver for an enormous five-game homestand. It starts off with Memphis on Monday night, and wraps with a visit from Dallas. In between are the Thunder and Raptors. Nikola Jokic will need to step up even more with Paul Millsap out for the foreseeable future.
Orlando Magic (15-11 ATS) (LW: 3 ) 1-2 It was a precipitous fall in the standings from No. 3 to No. 7 for the Magic who dropped two of three at online sportsbooks this past week. Orlando is one of those three teams that doesn’t own a +.500 record in these rankings, but it gets the benefit of playing in what looks to be one of the weakest divisions in the Eastern Conference.
Oklahoma City Thunder (14-10 ATS) (LW: 4 ) Owners of a +6.8 scoring margin, the Thunder let its wagering supporters down in a big way in back-to-back nights escaping the Nets by a bucket as 6.5 point favorites, and then losing outright to the Bulls as 8.5 point road chalk. OKC returns home for a divisional tilt with Utah before hitting the road for two more. It then closes the week out back home against the Clippers.
Minnesota Timberwolves (14-12 ATS) (LW: 11 ) The Timberwolves struggled mightily after trading Jimmy Butler to the 76ers back on October 19. But since the middle of November, it’s been a much different story in the Twin Cities. After rattling off a 2-1 ATS record last week, Minnesota now stands 9-4 SU and ATS since and just clawed back to the break-even point. D-Rose has been a solid contributor along the way.
Milwaukee Bucks (13-11-1 ATS)? (LW: 12 ) With LeBron James now in the West, Giannis Antetokounmpo is now the conference’s premiere All-Star. The Bucks displayed their championship prowess this past week against Golden State and Toronto. After incurring a 105-95 home defeat to the Warriors, they went on the road and beat the Raptors North of the Border. That’s the true sign of a winner right there!
And the Rest...
 Indiana Pacers (13-13 ATS) (LW: 15 )
San Antonio Spurs (13-13-1 ATS) (LW: 17 )
Portland Trail Blazers (13-13 ATS) (LW: 16 )
 Cleveland Cavaliers (13-13 ATS) (LW: 13 )
 Detroit Pistons (12-12 ATS) (LW: 6 )
New York Knicks (13-14-1 ATS) (LW: 10 )
 Boston Celtics (12-13 ATS) (LW: 23 )
Golden State Warriors (13-14 ATS) (LW: 26 )
 Chicago Bulls (13-14 ATS) (LW: 19 )
 Miami Heat (12-13 ATS) (LW: 20 )
 Utah Jazz (13-14 ATS)? (LW: 21 )
New Orleans Pelicans (13-15 ATS) (LW: 18 )
 Brooklyn Nets (13-15 ATS) (LW: 27 )
 Toronto Raptors (13-15 ATS) (LW: 14 )
 Philadelphia 76ers (12-15 ATS) (LW: 22 )
Los Angeles Lakers (11-14-1 ATS) (LW: 24 )
 Washington Wizards (11-15 ATS) (LW: 29 )
 Atlanta Hawks (10-16 ATS) (LW: 28 )
 Houston Rockets (9-16 ATS) (LW: 25 )
 Phoenix Suns (8-18 ATS) (LW: 30 )
