Here at Gamblers Palace, our NBA Power Rankings are going to differ just a bit from the run-of-the-mill rankings you see on other websites. While those power rankings approach NBA teams from a statistical standpoint, we focus on the good stuff…gambling.
NBA Power Rankings at Gamblers Palace are exactly what the gambler needs. We take into account all the normal power ranking components such as offensive and defensive efficiencies, injuries, strength of schedule, rivalries, revenge, scheduling situations, home-court advantage and coaches, but we compile all of those into a edge for the handicapper.
You will see that our NBA Power Rankings focus on each team’s win-loss record against the spread. We highlight good spots in the coming week to possibly play, or fade, a particular team. Our writers will highlight basketball teams on the rise, and on the decline.
NBA Power Rankings are updated weekly so you’ll want to check back every Monday for fresh information on how to bet the NBA.
The Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks all find themselves ranked amongst the top-five best moneymaking teams in the league since the last report. Falling out of the rankings were the New Orleans Pelicans which allowed the Indiana Pacers to take their place. Just missing the cut were the Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets. Let’s dig in and breakdown all 30 teams to see how they stack up from a betting perspective with the Thanksgiving off-day fast approaching.
1: Boston Celtics (15-2-1 ATS) – There’s literally no stopping the Celtics right now! Winners of 16 straight after dropping their first two games of the season, Brad Stevens lineup is playing like it just don’t give a you know what. Kyrie Irving’s odds to win the MVP Award have plummeted, while the team’s confidence has skyrocketed over the course of this historic winning streak. Four straight non-divisional games are lined up before Boston welcomes Joel Embiid and the Sixers into the Garden in what looks on paper to be their toughest matchup remaining in the month of November.
2: Philadelphia 76ers (12-4 ATS) – The Sixers leapfrog the Pistons in this week’s rankings after extending the win streak versus the linemakers to four straight by covering against both Golden State and Utah. Though they fell to the defending champs at home, it took getting outscored 47-15 in the third quarter to allow Golden State back in the game before ultimately going down in defeat. While the loss stung, it’s one Brett Brown’s troops will likely have learned something from. That will only make this exciting young group of talent even better down the road.
3: Detroit Pistons (11-5-1 ATS) – It’s high time Stan Van Gundy lit a fire under his teams’ behinds. If not, it will only be a matter of time until the three-time defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers race right past them in the divisional standings. They’re currently just 1-game back with the Pacers 1.5-games out. It’s highly possible Detroit is nowhere near the top-five come early December with games lined up to go at Oklahoma City and Boston before returning home to face the Suns. From there, it’s back to the road for stops in Washington, Philadelphia, San Antonio and Milwaukee.
4: New York Knicks (10-6 ATS) – Truth be told, the Knicks have gotten to this point by taking on one of the more vanilla schedules through the first month-plus of the season. While they’ve taken on Cleveland twice as well as the Rockets, Thunder and Raptors, a whole bunch of garbage represents the remainder of the docket. Kristaps Porzingis is one heck of a talent, but is he truly enough to lead the team back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2012-13 season? The Knicks can rebound with the best of them, but don’t do much else worthwhile. Their upcoming rematch with Toronto at home will be a great barometer to judge them on moving forward.
5: Indiana Pacers (11-7 ATS) – The Pacers find themselves back in the top-five after rattling off a perfect 3-0 tally against the linemakers to propel themselves back into the Central Division discussion. Victor Oladipo and his mates have now covered five of their last six games since going on a four-game slide at the beginning of November. It’s been all about the offense thus far for Indiana with the defense giving up over 107 points per game. We’ll get a much better idea of how for real this team truly is over the next 11 days with four of their five opponents owners of +.500 records. The first three come at home where they’re 4-3 straight up and against the spread.
And the Rest...
6: Toronto Raptors (10-6 ATS)
7: New Orleans Pelicans (10-7 ATS)
8: Houston Rockets (10-7 ATS)
