Unlike many of the other countries who play summer-based seasons, Norway at least has a little bit of a history playing the role of the spoiler to some other teams in the top European competitions. What is now known as the Eliteserien (formerly known as the Tippeligaen for quite some time) is one of the more talented leagues that take place over the course of the summer.
The Eliteserien has been around since 1937, usually with 16 teams as the league has at the present time. The most successful team is far and away Rosenborg. This club has won the Norway championship a whopping 24 times, and it is the one side that has gone on to play in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
