2017 - Kentucky Derby 143 Race results

Always Dreaming won the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby. He held off a late charge from Lookin At Lee, Battle of Midway and Classic Empire to claim the roses on Saturday by two-and-three-quarter lengths. Always Dreaming has now won three consecutive races this year after finishing second and third in his first two races.

He is also the first horse since 1933 to win the Kentucky Derby after not winning his first race until on or after Jan. 25.

2016 - Kentucky Derby 142 Race results

Nyquist won the 2016 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on a beautiful sunny Saturday evening in Louisville. Exaggerator was second by 1-1/4 lengths and Gun Runner third by 4-1/2.

With the victory Nyquist paid $6.60 to win on a $2 bet, $4.80 to place and $3.60 to show. Exaggerator paid $5.40 to place and $4.20 to show. Gun Runner paid $6.00 to show.

Nyquist is the first to go 8-for-8 since 1969 and the eighth unbeaten Kentucky Derby winner of all time.

2015 - Kentucky Derby 141 Race results

American Pharoah drew the No. 18 post, ridden by Victor Espinoza, came into the Derby having won the Arkansas Derby by eight lengths and now has won the 141st Kentucky Derby.

The horse, was trained by Bob Baffert, and is only one of two horses that has won from there, the other was Gato Del Sol, in 1982.

Firing Line, ridden by Gary L Stevens, came in second and Dortmund, also trained by the now four-time Derby winning Baffert, finishing in third.

2014 - Kentucky Derby 140 Winner and Payouts

California Chrome, ridden by Victor Espinoza, took command at the head of the stretch en route to a 1 3/4-length victory over Commanding Curve to win the 140th running of the $2,202,800 Kentucky Derby.

California Chrome and became the oldest trainer to win a Kentucky Derby winner. Charlie Whittingham was 76 when Sunday Silence won the 1989 Kentucky Derby.

As well, give jockey Victor Espinoza a second Derby victory to go with his triumph on War Emblem in 2002.

2013 - Kentucky Derby 139th Winner and Payouts

Orb powered to a 2½-length victory Saturday at Churchill Downs, giving trainer Shug McGaughey and jockey Joel Rosario their first Derby wins.

Rosario had Orb in the clear on the outside and they forged to the lead in deep stretch, with enough momentum to hold off 34-1 shot Golden Soul.

It was a popular victory before a crowd of 151,616, which poured enough late money on Orb to make him the 5-1 favorite, a position Revolutionary had owned most of the day.

2012 Kentucky Derby 138 Winner and Payouts

Bet Kentucky Derby HorsesI'll Have Another stormed out of post No. 19 to win by 1½ lengths on Saturday, beating one of the deepest fields in years. This year’s competition was tough with winners from the Florida Derby, Blue Grass Stakes, Arkansas Derby, Wood Memorial, and Santa Anita Derby all competing in this year’s 138th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Ridden by Mario Gutierrez, I’ll Have Another emerged victorious beating Dullahan and one of this years triple crown favorite Bodemeister. Bodemeister, maintained the lead for the majority of the race, until on the outside of the final stretch in the this year’s spectacular Triple Crown race.

While it was the first Derby victory for Gutierrez, I’ll Have Another previously claimed the Santa Anita Derby by a nose. The Derby champion, I’ll Have Another, is owned by Paul Reddam and trained by Doug O’Neill.

Kentucky Derby 137 WinnerLong shot Animal Kingdom, a lightly-raced colt who had never competed on dirt, triumphed in the most prestigious dirt race of all Saturday when he beat Nehro by 2 3/4 lengths in the 137th Kentucky Derby.

For Motion and victorious jockey John Velazquez, the storybook ending in front of a record crowd of 164,858 came after each had encountered great adversity. When Motion flew to Churchill Downs last Tuesday, he left behind what many viewed as his top Derby hope when Toby's Corner was unable to ship here due to injury.

Animal Kingdom is the first champion to make his dirt debut in the Derby. He had competed three times on synthetic surfaces and once on grass. He defied convention in other ways as well.

He paid $18, $8.80 and $6.

2009 - Kentucky Derby 135 Winner

Kentucky Derby 135 WinnerDouble Eagle Ranch and Buena Suerte Equine’s Mine That Bird, one of the longest shots on the board at 50-1, exploded along the rail down the stretch under Calvin Borel to win the 135th running of the $2,177,200 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (Grade I).

Mine That Bird rallied from last in a field of 19 Thoroughbreds to win by 6 3/4 lengths before a crowd of 153,563, seventh-largest in race history. The victory margin was the largest in the Kentucky Derby since eventual Triple Crown winner Assault won the Kentucky Derby by eight lengths in 1946. 

Prior to Mine That Bird’s win, the 6 ½-length win by Barbaro in 2006 had been the largest win margin since Assault’s Derby romp. Pioneerof the Nile, Musket Man and Papa Clem battled for second, with the former finishing a nose in front of Musket Man, while Papa Clem was a head farther back.  Friesan Fire, the 7-2 favorite, finished 18th.

2008 - Kentucky Derby 134 Winner

The win by Big Brown marked the 7th time an undefeated horse has won the Derby with Big Brownextending his winning streak to 4. Big Brown is a legitimate threat to win the Triple Crown this year as he has proven to be a cut above this year’s rival 3-year old’s.

2007 - Kentucky Derby 133 Winner

Street Sense 133 Kentucky Derby WinnerAn experienced trainer, an inspired rider and the raw talent of a powerful thoroughbred proved an unstoppable combination Saturday, as 9-2 favorite Street Sense rallied from far back to post a 2¼-length length victory over Hard Spun in the 133rd Kentucky Derby.

The $2 million Kentucky Derby (G1), the first leg of the Triple Crown and the ultimate target for every horse owner, was contested at Churchill Downs on Saturday before a crowd of 156,635. Sunny skies were a welcome change from the wet conditions on Friday. A maximum field size of 20 went to post, with Street Sense sent off as the 9-5 favorite attempting to become the first Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner to come back to win the Derby.

Undefeated Curlin, off his win in the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn, was the 5-1 second choice over Florida Derby winner Scat Daddy at 7-1. Hard Spun, winner of the Lane's End Stakes, was the 10-1 fourth choice over Wood Memorial winner Nobiz Like Shobiz at 10.40-1 odds.

Jockey Edgar Prado, who won his first Kentucky Derby victory in seven tries, said that he had smooth sailing after Barbaro made a slight misstep at the start.
