The Honda Classic gets underway February 22-25, 2018. The event is the first one on the Florida swing and first got its start all the way back in 1972 as Jackie Gleason’s Inverrary Classic. Since than, multiple sponsor’s and venues have taken part. American Motors hosted the event a few years in the 70’s before Honda took the reigns in 1984.
PGA National - Champion will again host the tournament and has since 2010. The layout is one of the more difficult stops on the PGA Tour and features the “Bear Trap” which consists of two par 3’s and one long par four with water surrounding all the holes. Big numbers are waiting to happen and provides drama until the last putt is holed.
Last year Rickie Fowler led from start to finish to earn a four stroke win over Morgan Hoffmann and Gary Woodland. Fowler is one to watch again this year as he thrives playing on bermuda and lives close to the course.
Past champions include Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Johnny Miller, Hale Irwin, Ernie Els, Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy.
Preview: The West Coast Swing on the PGA Tour wrapped up last week with Bubba Watson winning in LA and now we turn our attention to the Florida Swing which begins this week in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida at the Honda Classic. Defending champion Rickie Fowler will try to become the first player since Jack Nicklaus to go back-to-back at the Honda Classic. Continue...

The Honda Classic PGA Tour golf tournament has been won by some renowned golfers over the years, including Jack Nicklaus in 1977 who also won it the following year. It was first played in 1972 when it was known as Jackie Gleason’s Inverrary Classic, before getting Honda on board as a sponsor in 1982.
In 2007 the Honda Classic moved to the Champions Course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, which is where the tournament currently remains. In the early days of the Honda Classic, the host course was the East Course at the Inverrary Golf and Country Club in Lauderhill, and included "Inverrary" as part of the tournament's name from 1972 through 1983.
Other host courses in Honda Classic history include TPC Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, Weston Hills Golf and Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, TPC Heron Bay in Coral Springs, and the Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens.
Rickie Fowler won the Honda Classic in Florida to claim his first victory in 13 months.
The world number 18 had not won on the PGA Tour since the Deutsche Bank Championship in September 2015.
He started the day with a four-shot lead, and finished with a 12-under total of 268, four shots ahead of Morgan Hoffmann and Gary Woodland.
His win means he moves to 10th in the FedExCup after his fourth career victory.
