The PGA Tour makes its first stop on the “Florida Swing” on February 23-26, 2017 when the Honda Classic hosts some of the world’s best players. Ever since Jack Nicklaus stamped his name and time behind the tournament, the event has flourished, drawing a world-class betting field.
PGA National - Champion will host the event for the 10th consecutive year. The original Fazio design measures 7,158 yards and plays to a par 70. Jack Nicklaus gave it a redesign in 1990, introducing the treacherous “Bear Trap.” The three-hole stretch is arguably the toughest in golf. Holes 15-17 feature two par 3s and one par 4 that are surrounded by water, and every year we see a professional hit multiple balls in the water. It almost cost Adam Scott the tournament last year after he hit two balls in the water on No. 16 during the third round.
Defending champion Adam Scott will be the headliner and he will be joined by other top players that include Sergio Garcia, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy and possibly Tiger Woods, who resides near the course.
Defending champion Adam Scott is joined by 12 of the top 25 players in the Official World Rankings that makes this week’s Honda Classic one of the stronger fields of the year.
Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Zach Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Jimmy Walker, Daniel Berger, Jason Dufner and Charles Howell III lead the American attack this week in Florida. Continue...
Its field is littered with elite players and the host course, PGA National, played as the hardest non-major in relation to par last year.
You need every shot in the bag to succeed here so the focus for the Honda Classic is on guys who are well-rounded and playing strong golf right now.

The Honda Classic PGA Tour golf tournament has been won by some renowned golfers over the years, including Jack Nicklaus in 1977 who also won it the following year. It was first played in 1972 when it was known as Jackie Gleason’s Inverrary Classic, before getting Honda on board as a sponsor in 1982.
In 2007 the Honda Classic moved to the Champions Course at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, which is where the tournament currently remains. In the early days of the Honda Classic, the host course was the East Course at the Inverrary Golf and Country Club in Lauderhill, and included "Inverrary" as part of the tournament's name from 1972 through 1983.
Other host courses in Honda Classic history include TPC Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, Weston Hills Golf and Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, TPC Heron Bay in Coral Springs, and the Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens.
Rickie Fowler won the Honda Classic in Florida to claim his first victory in 13 months.
The world number 18 had not won on the PGA Tour since the Deutsche Bank Championship in September 2015.
He started the day with a four-shot lead, and finished with a 12-under total of 268, four shots ahead of Morgan Hoffmann and Gary Woodland.
His win means he moves to 10th in the FedExCup after his fourth career victory.
