Holiday Bowl Prediction - Michigan State Vs Washington State Odds

When: December 28, 2017 - 9 p.m. ET / FOX

Where: San Diego, California - Qualcomm Stadium

Who: Michigan State Spartans vs Washington State Cougars

Mike Leach did a remarkable job this season with his alma mater, and that has caused his name to be brought up for a number of high-profile jobs. Leach won't leave in all likelihood, but just the fact that he was able to get his little ol' team from the dinky town of Pullman into the top-10 in the nation was remarkable.

The Cougars flamed out after a 6-0 start to the year, highlighted by a 30-27 win a Friday night over USC. That said, the team was dropped by Cal, Arizona and Washington, and all three losses were of the devastating variety.

This is the final game in the career of Luke Falk, a man who has thrown for 12,622 yards and 106 touchdowns in his career.

Michigan State was fairly awful last season, but Mark Dantonio isn't going to stay down forever. The Spartans lost to Notre Dame early on and Northwestern in overtime on October 28, but a win over Penn State setup a huge showdown against Ohio State. Sparty was trashed 48-3 at the Horseshoe to end any chances of playing in the College Football Playoff, but just the fact that this team was relevant into the middle of November was a huge accomplishment.

This is the 10th time in 11 seasons that MSU has played in a really high-profile bowl game. The Spartans were in the BCS/New Year's Six/CFP six times in that span, winning just two of the six.

Washington State is making a second-straight trip to the Holiday Bowl after losing to Minnesota 17-12 in this game last season.

Holiday Bowl Prediction - Michigan State Spartans vs Washington State Cougars

Opening Line: Washington State -3.5

Preview: The Michigan State Spartans will look to slow down the high scoring offense of the Washington State Cougars in the Holiday Bowl on Thursday, December 28 on ESPN. The Spartans gave up just 20.3 points per game this season, 23rd best in the country, while the Cougars scored 31.4 points per game, 42nd in the country. Both of these teams are ranked in the Top 25, as the Spartans are ranked No. 16, while the Cougars are ranked No. 18. Oddsmakers don’t believe in those rankings, as they have Washington State listed as the favorite. Continue...

Holiday Bowl Betting Tips

One of the first things to look for when examining the college football bowl odds is the current form of the teams. Some teams are coming into the bowl game playing very well, while others are coming in flat or disappointed.

Motivation is a big key factor when it comes to looking at college football bowl betting lines, we also have to look at other things.

Schedule strength, turnovers, recent form, and overall team power ratings are things to consider as the bowl games begin. You also want to take the individual game odds into consideration.

Holiday Bowl History

From 1978 through 1994, this game always featured the WAC champion against an at-large or Big Ten team. Since 1995, it has matched the WAC champion or a Pac-10 team against a Big 12 team.

It's played in late December. Owned and operated by the city of San Diego, Qualcomm Stadium will blitz you with great football action! The Stadium was built in 1967 in response to the need for a big-league stadium for the San Diego Chargers of the NFL who were moving in from Los Angeles.

The San Diego State University Aztecs also compete here every year to capacity crowds. The Stadium has played host to two Super Bowls, two MLB All-Star games, and has hosted a couple of World Series games as well.

The Holiday Bowl also takes place here on an annual basis. The stadium also has hosted several motocross races and monster truck rallies, too.
