The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to Michigan International Speedway, located in the scenic Irish Hills area of southeastern Michigan, on Father’s Day with the running of the FireKeepers Casino 400! It is one of two races held at the Speedway each year with the Pure Michigan 400 taking place in August.
Formerly known as the Quicken Loans 400, Lifelock 400 and Heluva Good Sour Cream Dips 400 among other names, this 400-mile contest at Michigan International Speedway features some of the fastest action in the sport.
The FireKeepers Casino 400 is at the halfway point of determining who will make the Chase for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and is one of the fastest races in NASCAR despite being one of the shortest.
The track is a two-mile moderate-banked D-shaped superspeedway and is now one of the fastest tracks in NASCAR due to its wide, sweeping corners and long straight-aways; typical qualifying speeds are in excess of 190 mph and corner entry speeds easily exceed 200 mph.
Last year, Kyle Larson passed Kyle Busch to take the lead with 15 laps remaining, then withstood two late restarts to win the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
Larson led a race-high 96 of 200 laps in scoring his second victory of the 2017 Monster Energy Cup Series season.
Cale Yarborough holds the record for most wins in this race with six, while David Pearson and Bill Elliott have four wins. Rusty Wallace has three wins, while seven drivers including Denny Hamlin have two.
The top teams in this race have been Hendrick Motorsports, Roush Fenway Racing and Wood Brothers Racing with six wins. Four teams including Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing have four wins while Ranier-Lundy has three wins. M.C. Anderson and Richard Childress Racing have two wins.
Ford has won this race 17 times, while Chevrolet has 14 wins. Mercury has 7 wins, while Dodge has three. Buick, Pontiac and Toyota have two wins while Oldsmobile has one.

Jimmie Johnson finally scored a victory at Michigan International Speedway in Sunday's Quicken Loans 400.
Johnson entered the day 0-for-24 on the 2-mile oval. MIS was one of only five active tracks on the circuit where he hadn't parked his Lowe's No. 48 Chevrolet in victory prior to today.
Johnson scored his 69th career victory and his third checkered flag in the past four Cup events, winning the race by a comfortable margin over pole-sitter Kevin Harvick.
