The 43rd edition of the Memorial Tournament gets underway May 31 - June 3, 2018. The event is one of five invitationals on the PGA Tour and will have a reduced betting field of 120 players instead of the normal 156.

Jack Nicklaus is the host and had a vision in 1976 to bring a tournament back to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. The rest is history and the tournament attracts a world class field that is second to none on a yearly basis.

One of the main features of the tournament is a yearly induction ceremony honoring past golfers. A plaque for each honoree is installed near the clubhouse at Muirfield; Nicklaus himself was the honoree in 2000.

Muirfield Village Golf Club is the only course that has hosted the tournament. Built in 1974 by Jack Nicklaus, the first Memorial event was two years later in 1976 and soon became one of the players’ favorite courses. The layout measures 7,392 yards and plays to a par 72.

Last year Jason Dufner held off Rickie Fowler and Anirban Lahiri to win by three strokes. It was Dufner’s fifth win on the PGA Tour.

The list of past champions is legendary. Host Jack Nicklaus won his own event twice, in 1977 and 1984. Tom Watson, Hale Irwin and Greg Norman also won it two times. Raymond Floyd, Fred Couples, Jim Furyk, Ernie Els and Justin Rose all cashed in one time, but Tiger Woods holds the record for winning it five times.

Muirfield Village Golf Course

Muirfield Village is a tough golf course and it is as challenging as any in the world.

The fairways may be wide, but you have to hit it to the correct side to get a good angle at the pin. Plus, the greens are really tough.

The first tournament was played in 1976, and some consider The Memorial the fifth PGA major.

Muirfield Village has been consistently ranked in the Top 20 in the United States and Top 50 in the world since it opened. Voted the No. 1 course in golf-rich Ohio.
