NCAA Football Week Nine Game Previews - Tuesday, October 23 to Saturday, October 27, 2018

Week 9 College Football Betting OddsWith the month of October coming to a close, college football betting action is starting to reach a fever pitch with every conference gearing up for a bowl push in Week 9. With that, fans of watching and wagering on the sport will be greeted with 11 games to sink their teeth into before Saturday’s slate kicks off!

Troy and South Alabama kick things off on Tuesday night which leads into Thursday’s five game slate headlined by the Baylor/West Virginia and Georgia Tech Virginia Tech matchups that will air live on FS1 and ESPN respectively. We then get right back to it on Friday night with another five games lined up. ESPN’s Friday night lights doubleheader should be a doozy with Miami traveling to Chestnut Hill to battle the BC Eagles followed by Utah and UCLA squaring off in the Rose Bowl.

If that’s not enough action to wet your whistle on a Friday night, you got LA Tech/FAU, Indiana/Minnesota and Wyoming/Colorado State to get your juices flowing! Anyone up for some weekday college pigskin live betting action?!

With so many games going during the week, Saturday’s Week 9 college pigskin slate is on the short side. Even so, it packs a bit of a punch!

We’ll start on the historic gridiron of Doak Campbell Stadium where the Florida State Seminoles will be out to secure their biggest win of the season against the ACC favorite Clemson Tigers. Willie Taggart will have had seven games to get his kids ready for the conference heavyweight, so it’s put up or shut up time for the Noles. FSU has been dogged in each of the last three meetings with the Tigers. Though they failed to win those games, they were competitive evidenced by covering twice. The lone pointspread defeat was incurred last season when they fell 31-14 and came up just short of covering the closing 16 point spread. The Noles have won eight of the last 10 times Clemson made the trip to Tallahassee ( 6-4 ATS ), but stands 1-1 SU and ATS since Dabo’s rise to national prominence.

The big Week 9 game going down in the Pac-12 finds the Oregon Ducks traveling down to Tucson to battle the Arizona Wildcats. The matchup of quarterbacks will no doubt be worth the price of admission with both Justin Herbert and Khalil Tate two of the nation’s most electric at the position. Though each of the last five matchups between these schools have combined for low scorers, the money will no doubt be on the high side of the total this time around with the offensive firepower both teams bring to the table in 2018. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that the Quack Attack has made minced meat out of the Wildcats each of the last two seasons winning by the combined score of 99-41. U of A has covered four of the last five times it hosted the Ducks, but stands 2-3 SU in those matchups.

Though Oklahoma State lost both Mason Rudolph and James Washington to the NFL this past offseason, Mike Gundy’s kids currently check in as the third shortest chalk at +600 to challenge the Oklahoma Sooners for Big 12 supremacy. That means this week’s home tilt against the Texas Longhorns is huge considering Tom Herman’s squad possesses the second shortest odds at +300. Having already played OU this season, this becomes a must win for the visitors. Especially when you take into account the Horns have dropped three straight to the Cowpokes after incurring a tough 13-10 defeat at home in 2017. The win moved OKST to 6-2 and 5-3 ATS in the last eight matchups. Surprisingly, the recent dominance has taken place on the road with the Cowboys an ugly 2-8 SU and 3-7 ATS the last 10 times they hosted this rivalry. This could be the biggest game of the week for CFP purposes!

We’d be remiss if we didn’t make mention of this year’s installment of the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in our Week 9 breakdown of the college football betting odds schedule. The Georgia Bulldogs finally put an end to their misery against Florida last season by trouncing the Gators 42-7 as 13 point neutral field favorites. In doing so, they put an end to a three game SU and ATS losing streak. With a new coaching staff in place, the Gators will no doubt be out to make amends. Even so, they’ll face a steep uphill with the Dawgs heavy favorites to win the SEC East.

Keep your HDTV sets tuned to CBS for the night cap when Ken Niumatalolo brings his Navy Midshipmen to San Diego to square off against Brian Kelly’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a neutral field bout. Expect loads of fanfare for both sides with the city of San Diego home to a large contingent of naval and military presence. It should have the feeling of a bowl game!

NCAA Football Betting Predictions / Saturday, October 27, 2018 Picks

Florida Gators vs. Georgia Bulldogs, TIAA Bank Field – 3:30 p.m. ET ( CBS )

Opening Line: Georgia -6.5

Preview: The “World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” is going to make for a huge entertaining tussle against the live betting lines on Saturday afternoon when the No. 9 ranked Florida Gators and No. 7 ranked Georgia Bulldogs get it on from Jacksonville in the SEC Game of the Week. With Kentucky set to invade Mizzou, the winner of this game could ultimately grab hold of the East Division lead should everything fall into place. That makes for some live betting goodness with momentum likely to jump from sideline to sideline over the course of this heavyweight battle. Continue...

Texas A&M Aggies vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs, Davis Wade Stadium – 7:00 p.m. ET ( ESPN )

Opening Line: Mississippi State -2.5

Preview: Having had two full weeks to prepare for this week’s live betting clash against a struggling cast of Mississippi State Bulldogs, Jimbo Fisher’s No. 16 ranked Texas A&M Aggies will return to the highway in hopes of logging a fourth straight win coming out of its bye. It will be far from an easy task to complete however with the cowbells out in full force with the main goal of helping their beloved Dawgs turn the page on last week’s tough defeat incurred in Baton Rouge. Continue...

Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Navy Midshipmen, SDCCU Stadium – 8:00 p.m. ET ( CBS )

Opening Line: Notre Dame -23.5, O/U 54.5

Preview: While the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have huge competitive advantage in the series, some matchups are worth keeping on the schedule. And this is one of them. It’s a rivalry based on tradition and mutual respect more than what happens on the playing field and in the polls. The game has been played annually since 1927 but Navy has never hosted a contest at its home stadium, instead opting for a larger venue. For the first time the teams will play each other west of the Eastern Time Zone when they take the field at SDCCU Stadium in San Diego, which has a large Navy contingent in the area. Continue...
