Week 9 kicks off Thursday, October 27, in Pittsburgh where the Panthers will look to defend their turf against the Coastal Division rival Virginia Tech Hokies. Pitt has won and covered each of the last two meetings which will have VaTech seething mad after dropping a hard fought 17-13 decision as a 3.5-point favorite at Lane Stadium last season. Tune to ESPN at 7 p.m. ET to see if Pittsburgh can hand the Hokies yet another defeat.
The AAC will hog the ESPN2 spotlight on Friday, October 28, when the Navy Midshipmen invade Raymond James Stadium looking to move to 2-0 both straight up and versus the college betting line against South Florida as the now conference rivals lock horns for only the second time in program history.
Camp Randall Stadium will no doubt be bumping on Saturday, October 29, when the West Division rival Nebraska Cornhuskers and Wisconsin Badgers meet for the sixth time in B1G play. Wisky has owned the rivalry in going 4-1 SU and ATS. You can wager on the game and watch it live on ESPN starting at 7 p.m. ET.

It gets harder every single week for teams sitting at the top of college football. There are only nine teams without a loss left standing this season after Ohio State and Texas A&M bit the dust last weekend. There are a whopping 14 teams who are ranked going on the road in Week 9, and the one thing you can be assured of is the fact that there's going to be some tremendous mayhem once again.
Time and time again, the game between Florida State and Clemson ends up deciding the ACC. This year, FSU is basically out of the equation, but the Noles can still spoil a lot here for the Tigers in Tallahassee, a place where Clemson has won just once in its history. The Tigers are laying points on the road at -3 though, and they're going to be expected to beat arguably their biggest foe left on this docket.
The biggest game of the day though, might be the the clash in the Big Ten between Nebraska and Wisconsin in Madison. The Badgers still have an outside chance to get back into the discussion in the College Football Playoff with two losses. It's going to take winning out obviously, at some point, Nebraska is going to have to lose a second game. The Cornhuskers haven't been challenged yet quite like this, and they're actually relatively big underdogs at +7.5 and are expected to fall from the ranks of the unbeatens here.
There are two other big games to follow in the Big Ten with the big boys in the Big Ten East.
Michigan vs. Michigan State would have been can't miss television a handful of weeks ago before Sparty really fell apart in the middle of the season. Still, it's a big game for Michigan State against the Wolverines, and it's the first big road game of the season for Big Blue.
Lastly, Ohio State has to get back in the saddle immediately after losing to Penn State. The Buckeyes still control their own destiny for sure to get into the CFP in spite of the fact that they were beaten last week for the first time, but they have to be careful not to ultimately lose out for a second straight week against an improving Northwestern side on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile in the Pac-12, Washington puts its undefeated mark on the line against Utah in what legitimately could be a preview of the Pac-12 Championship Game - and perhaps a play-in game for the CFP as well if enough chips fall into play by the first Saturday of December.
Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh, Heinz Field - 7 p.m. ET ( ESPN )
Opening Line: Virginia Tech -3.5
Preview: The Virginia Tech Hokies are looking for their first ACC title since 2011 and are in the driver’s seat in the ACC Coastal. Virginia Tech has been solid in its first year under Justin Fuente but a stunning loss to Syracuse two weeks ago means that this team needs to keep winning to win the division. It’s opponent in Week 9 college football action on Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Panthers, also control their own destiny in the division, but have a much tougher schedule ahead. Continue...
Akron at Buffalo, UB Stadium - 7:30 p.m. ET ( ESPN3 )
Opening Line: Akron -14.5
Preview: Terry Bowden and the Akron Zips are legitimately closing in on the MAC East title, and so long as they win at least two of their next three games, the worst they'll be in line for against Ohio in the last week of the regular season is a game that will decide the spot in the conference title game. That's not to say that the Zips have a clear path to the MAC Championship Game, though. This roadie with the Buffalo Bulls won't be easy to kick off Week 9 on Thursday night. Continue...
Ohio at Toledo, Glass Bowl - 7:30 p.m. ET ( CBSSN )
Opening Line: Toledo -16.5
Preview: With Western Michigan hot on the Toledo Rockets tail, Jason Candle’s kids best not slip up under the Thursday Night Lights against a well-coached Ohio Bobcats squad that would love nothing more than to throw a wrench in their opponent’s plans of representing their division in the title game. Regardless, this could be a preview of the upcoming MAC title game so both sides will likely bring everything they’ve got for this Week 9 brawl. Continue...
Appalachian State at Georgia Southern, Allen E. Paulson Stadium - 7:30 p.m. ET ( ESPNU )
Opening Line: Appalachian State -4.5
Preview: The Georgia Southern Panthers and Appalachian State Mountaineers are both still absolutely in contention for the Sun Belt championship, and both are going to be fighting to stay up in the bowl ladder in this conference. Week 9's battle between these two will prove to be an eliminator for the Panthers from the conference title race if they can't figure out how to pull off this upset of the Mountaineers. Continue...
California at USC, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum - 10:30 p.m. ET ( ESPN )
Opening Line: USC -14.5
Preview: The USC Trojans looked clueless at the beginning of the season losing embarrassingly to Alabama and Stanford and suffering a last second loss at Utah. But ever since Clay Helton made a quarterback change, the Trojans haven’t looked back in covering double digit spreads against both Arizona schools and securing an enormous home win against Colorado which could find it in the Pac-12 title game should it get a little help down the road. The Cal Golden Bears present them with a challenge in Week 9, but it’s one the new-look Trojans will take head on. Continue...
Navy at South Florida, Raymond James Stadium - 7 p.m. ET ( ESPN2 )
Opening Line: Check Back Later
Preview: We're going to learn a whole heck of a lot about the Navy Midshipmen over the course of the next couple weeks. They've stormed to 5-1 and are comfortably atop the AAC West Division, and they could have a legitimate chance to play in the New Year's Six yet. Still, they've got four legit road games coming up over the course of the next five weeks, starting with this game against the South Florida Bulls in Week 9. Continue...
San Diego State at Utah State, Romney Stadium - 8 p.m. ET ( CBSSN )
Opening Line: San Diego State -6.5
Preview: The San Diego State Aztecs have gotten off to a 3-0 start in Mountain West play, and we know they're going to have a shot at the Mountain West title and perhaps a spot in the New Year's Six as the Group of Five representative. They can't afford any further trips though, and in Week 9, a road game against the Utah State Aggies won't be easy. Continue...
Air Force at Fresno State, Bulldog Stadium - 10:30 p.m. ET ( ESPN2 )
Opening Line: Air Force -12
Preview: The Air Force Falcons started off this season at 4-0, including a win over Navy that looks to be massive at this point in the chase for the Commander-In-Chief Trophy. Since that point though, they've been beaten in three straight games, and they need nothing more in Week 9 than a get-better game as they have against the Fresno State Bulldogs. Continue...
UCF at Houston, TDECU Stadium - 12 p.m. ET ( ESPNU )
Opening Line: Houston -12
Preview: Remember when the Houston Cougars were supposed to be a College Football Playoff team? They've now all of a sudden been saddled with a pair of AAC losses, and they can forget about any chance of playing in the New Year's Six, let alone playing in the CFP. The question is whether they'll have any confidence or care in the world about playing against a UCF Knights team they blew out 59-10 last year in Week 9 remains to be seen. Continue...
Michigan at Michigan State, Spartan Stadium - 12 p.m. ET ( ESPN )
Opening Line: Michigan -20
Preview: The Michigan State Spartans were supposed to represent the road game of the season for the Michigan Wolverines up until their visit to the Big House to wrap up the regular season. Instead, Sparty is 2-5 and looks to be another doormat for Big Blue to run over in this Week 9 affair. That said, remember that this is a brutal rivalry game, and it's about all MSU has left to play for in 2016. Continue...
West Virginia at Oklahoma State, Boone Pickens Stadium - 12 p.m. ET ( FOX )
Opening Line: West Virginia -1
Preview: The Oklahoma State Cowboys are almost quiet in that they've reached 5-2 this season with one of those losses being an asterisk loss to Central Michigan that has long been forgotten. The Big XII race is absolutely still there for the taking, though obviously, being the first to hand the West Virginia Mountaineers a defeat in Week 9 of the season is going to be critical. Continue...
Louisville at Virginia, Scott Stadium - 12 p.m. ET ( ABC )
Opening Line: Louisville -27
Preview: After a couple bad games in ACC play, the Louisville Cardinals finally looked like the Louisville Cardinals again last week. They've only got two more road games to play in conference and should romp to wins in at least four of their last five. So long as they don't lose focus, Week 9's battle in Charlottesville against the Virginia Cavaliers shouldn't end up being all that big of a deal. Continue...
Maryland at Indiana, Memorial Stadium - 3:30 p.m. ET ( ESPNU )
Opening Line: Indiana -5
Preview: Even though the Maryland Terrapins already have five wins this year, most don't believe they have a legitimate chance of contending in the Big Ten. They did take a big step forward last week by beating Michigan State at home as short underdogs, and if they're going to win again in Week 9, they're going to have to pull off yet another upset of the Indiana Hoosiers. Continue...
Texas Tech at TCU, Amon G. Carter Stadium - 3:30 p.m. ET ( ESPN2 )
Opening Line: TCU -7
Preview: Last week, the Texas Tech Red Raiders set numerous records when they hosted Oklahoma. Texas Tech passed, passed, and passed some more, and when it was over QB Pat Mahomes had set a new record for total offense in a single game, with 819 total yards, and tied the record for passing yards in a game with 734. Hopefully, Mahomes has iced his arm this week as he will be slinging it again in College Football Week 9 action against the TCU Horned Frogs. Continue...
Florida vs. Georgia, EverBank Field - 3:30 p.m. ET ( CBS )
Opening Line: Florida -5.5
Preview: It's the World's Largest Cocktail Party, and this season, it could end up being the game that decides the SEC East. It's been a long time since the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs have truly been title contenders, but this year, the men in orange and blue have a legitimate shot to vault themselves into the Top 10 in America if they can figure out how to take out the Dawgs in Jacksonville. Continue...
Miami at Notre Dame, Notre Dame Stadium - 3:30 p.m. ET ( NBC )
Opening Line: Notre Dame -1
Preview: Frustration has really set in for both the Miami Hurricanes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Notre Dame has won just once over the course of the last five games, while Miami has dropped three straight. The Golden Domers had a bye last week, while the Canes are going to have a long week of prep after getting whipped in Blacksburg last Thursday night. Week 9 is going to end up being make-or-break for both of these teams. Continue...
Northwestern at Ohio State, Ohio Stadium - 3:30 p.m. ET ( ESPN )
Opening Line: Ohio State -21.5
Preview: No one saw the Ohio State Buckeyes' loss to Penn State last week coming. The Buckeyes still probably control their own destiny to get into the College Football Playoff, and they have to realize that any game now could be their final undoing both in the championship chase and in the Big Ten race as well. The Northwestern Wildcats are the foes in Week 9, and they're going to hope to play the role of spoiler at the 'Shoe. Continue...
Miami ( OH ) at Eastern Michigan, Rynearson Stadium - 3:30 p.m. ET ( ESPN3 )
Opening Line: Eastern Michigan -6.5
Preview: The Eastern Michigan Eagles have come a tremendously long way over the course of the last couple seasons, and they've got a shot to become bowl eligible after playing in just one bowl game in their history, that way back in 1987. A home game with the Miami Redhawks is all that separates the Eagles and that coveted bowl spot, and you can bet that Ypsilanti is going to be flying high in Week 9 if its hometown team can figure out how to ensure a .500 campaign. Continue...
Baylor at Texas, Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium - 3:30 p.m. ET ( ABC )
Opening Line: Baylor -2.5
Preview: The Big XII continues to be a conference that cannibalized itself. The Baylor Bears and West Virginia Mountaineers though, continue to get through this conference without a loss, and they could theoretically meet as undefeated teams at the end of the season. That said, the Bears still have a lot of work to do, and a game at the Texas Longhorns in Week 9 could be a big time problem. Continue...
Washington at Utah, Rice-Eccles Stadium - 3:30 p.m. ET ( FS1 )
Opening Line: Washington -10.5
Preview: There aren't many games left on the docket this year that could trip the Washington Huskies up, but this game on the road in Week 9 against the Utah Utes is surely one of them. These two Top 20 teams both certainly have their sights set on the Rose Bowl, but the fact of the matter is that both have to feel that winning out will put them in the College Football Playoff as well. Is this a preview of the Pac-12 Championship Game? Don't rule out the possibility. Continue...
SMU at Tulane, Yulman Stadium - 4 p.m. ET ( ESPNEWS )
Opening Line: SMU -2.5
Preview: Chad Morris has the biggest win of his coaching career. He led his SMU Mustangs to a huge upset of Houston at home on Saturday night, a victory that resulted in storming the field in Dallas and a party that was only rivaled by what we saw in Chicago when the Cubs clinched the pennant. The Mustangs though, have a very dangerous game in front of them in Week 9 on the road against the Tulane Green Wave. Continue...
Georgia State at South Alabama, Ladd-Peebles Stadium - 5 p.m. ET ( ESPN3 )
Opening Line: South Alabama -2.5
Preview: The Georgia State Panthers have scored five covers in a row and are one of the hottest ATS teams in the land. Week 9 though, provides a much different test, as they have to go on the road to take on one of the more underrated teams in the Sun Belt, the South Alabama Jaguars. Continue...
Arizona State at Oregon, Autzen Stadium - 5 p.m. ET ( Pac-12 Network )
Opening Line: Oregon -7.5
Preview: We're almost at Halloween and the Oregon Ducks still haven't won a game in the Pac-12 yet. They're 2-5 and feel for the world like they aren't going to even reach a bowl game just two years after playing for the National Championship. All of a sudden, even a seemingly easy game against the Arizona State Sun Devils doesn't feel like a given victory in Week 9 of this disastrous campaign. Continue...
Kansas at Oklahoma, Memorial Stadium - 7 p.m. ET ( FS1 )
Opening Line: Oklahoma -41
Preview: The Big XII is a bit of a meat grinder, but at least every team gets the reprieve of playing a couple of doormats every single season. The doormat of all doormats, the Kansas Jayhawks, are on tap for the Oklahoma Sooners in Week 9, and with Iowa State on deck next week, it's pretty clear that Bob Stoops' side is going to be sitting pretty at 6-0 in conference play with three games left to go in the season and a spot in the New Year's Six on the line. Continue...
Boise State at Wyoming, War Memorial Stadium - 7 p.m. ET ( CBSSN )
Opening Line: Boise State -14
Preview: Most are going under the assumption that the Boise State Broncos are going to represent the Group of Five in the New Year's Six at this point with Houston firmly out of the way. But there's no guarantee yet that the Broncos are even going to win their share of the Mountain West. The Wyoming Cowboys are also undefeated in the MWC Mountain Division, and this game in Laramie is going to be the biggest we've seen in quite some time in Week 9 of the season.Continue...
Nebraska at Wisconsin, Camp Randall Stadium - 7 p.m. ET ( ESPN )
Opening Line: Wisconsin -8
Preview: We're officially at the point where the Nebraska Cornhuskers are either going to make or break their season. They haven't really played much of anything in terms of a schedule this year, but these next two games on the road are going to be their biggest tests. First up are the Wisconsin Badgers, and you can bet that the Bounce House is going to be rocking in hopes of handing Big Red its first loss of 2016. Continue...
Auburn at Ole Miss, Vaught-Hemingway Stadium - 7:15 p.m. ET ( SEC Network )
Opening Line: Auburn -2
Preview: The Ole Miss Rebels were once a Top 10 team with legitimate aspirations for playing in the College Football Playoff. Now, they're one of the many elite level teams from the start of the year just clinging to hopes of bowl eligibility with almost half the season left to be played. The Rebs have a date with the red hot Auburn Tigers in Week 9, and this could end up being the game they have to have if they want a chance to play at all in December. Continue...
Tennessee at South Carolina, Williams-Brice Stadium - 7:15 p.m. ET ( ESPN2 )
Opening Line: Tennessee -12.5
Preview: You've just gotten the feeling over the course of the year that Will Muschamp is going to exact some revenge on one of these SEC East teams over the course of this season. Of course, with the way things have gone for the South Carolina Gamecocks heading into this Week 9 clash with the Tennessee Volunteers, that's starting to become a lot less believe. Continue...
New Mexico State at Texas A&M, Kyle Field - 7:30 p.m. ET ( ESPNU )
Opening Line: Texas A&M -41
Preview: The No. 9 Texas AM Aggies may have lost to Alabama last week, but still have a decent route to make it to the College Football Playoff. It’s hard to fault a team for losing in Tuscaloosa to the No. 1 team in the country and if the Aggies can win out they have a shot at being the second SEC team in. For this scenario to happen though, they need to get a little help and win out. In College Football Week 9, they will take on the New Mexico State Aggies. Continue...
Old Dominion at UTEP, Sun Bowl Stadium - 8 p.m. ET ( Local TV )
Opening Line: Old Dominion -5
Preview: You probably didn't pay all that much attention with everything that was going on in Week 8 of the season, but the UTEP Miners won the best game of the week, a five overtime victory on the road over UTSA. The win stopped a five-game skid, and now, the Miners have a shot to build their first winning streak of the season in Week 9 against the Old Dominion Monarchs. Continue...
Clemson at Florida State, Doak Campbell Stadium - 8 p.m. ET ( ABC )
Opening Line: Clemson -2.5
Preview: There's very reasonably only one major hurdle left for the Clemson Tigers to clear this season. All too often in recent years, we've seen this game between the Tigers and the Florida State Seminoles not only decide the ACC Atlantic Division, but also be an eliminator for the National Championship chase as well. FSU's title hopes are dashed this year, but it would love nothing more than to put a major wrench in the works of Clemson returning to the CFP in Week 9 of the campaign. Continue...
UNLV at San Jose State, CEFCU Stadium - 10:30 p.m. ET ( CBSSN )
Opening Line: UNLV -1
Preview: Last year when the San Jose State Spartans and UNLV Rebels met, they put on a real show. Both teams fought back from deficits multiple times in the game, and a 49-yard field goal for the Rebs in the dying seconds sent the game to overtime. San Jose State won it on a Tyler Ervin TD in the OT period, but the game could have easily gone either way. This Week 9 matchups isn't the sexiest on the board, but it could provide just as much drama for sports betting fans. Continue...
Stanford at Arizona, Arizona Stadium - 11 p.m. ET ( FS1 )
Opening Line: Stanford -7
Preview: The Arizona Wildcats and Stanford Cardinal have both been incredibly disappointing this season, and the fact of the matter is that it isn't a lock for either one to even get to a bowl game this season. In Week 9 of the campaign, the two will clash in the desert, and this could end up being the game that really kills off the season for the loser. Continue...
New Mexico at Hawaii, Aloha Stadium - 11:59 p.m. ET ( Local TV )
Opening Line: Hawaii -2
Preview: Teams like Notre Dame, Michigan State and Texas might not end up in bowl games this year, but the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the New Mexico Lobos are both two wins away and have legitimate chances to be playing meaningful football in December. Both want to get that fifth win onboard as quickly as possible though, and Week 9 presents that opportunity for each other out on the Big Island. Continue...
