NCAA Week 8 Football Odds and Game Predictions

We haven't even gotten to the business part of the 2017 college football season yet, and we already have one of the craziest years on record on our hands. A whopping four top 10 teams were beaten last week by unranked teams, causing a seismic shakeup of the rankings.

The Big Ten and the SEC, the two conferences that weren't harmed by last week's craziness, now have five of the top six teams in America between them. But as we know, the big upset is only 60 minutes of football away, and just about every team in the land is going to be vulnerable every week.

Alabama and TCU should be exempt from that this week, though. These two teams are -33 and -39 respectively in their games against Tennessee and Kansas at home.

As far as the rest of the Top 10? That's anyone's guess. Penn State is only -12.5 at home against Michigan in the College GameDay game of the week, and few really believe that Wisconsin and Miami are set to get through this season unblemished. So sure, both the Badgers and Hurricanes are at home this week against significantly lesser foes in Maryland and Syracuse, but we've already seen the Orange pull off one stunning upset, and we shouldn't forget that we're only two weeks removed from Iowa State's shocker in Norman against Oklahoma.

Even three of the teams that are contending for the Group of Five bid to the College Football Playoff, Memphis, South Florida and UCF are all on the road this week, and it's highly unlikely that all three are still ranked in the Top 25 at the end of this weekend because of it.

College Football Thursday, October 19, 2017

Memphis at Houston - 8 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Opening Line: Houston -3

Preview: The Memphis Tigers made some tremendous strides last week when they sunk Navy to take control of the AAC West Division. They obviously can't put the division to rest this week, but if they beat the Houston Cougars on Thursday night in the Lone Star State, you can pretty much punch Memphis' ticket to the AAC Championship Game in December, where they would almost certainly play against the winner of the previous week's UCF/USF game. Continue...

College Football Friday, October 20, 2017

Marshall at Middle Tennessee - 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2)

Opening Line: Marshall -2.5

Preview: The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders were supposed to be one of the better teams in Conference USA this season. Instead, they've alternated wins and losses, and their 30-23 upset at Syracuse feels like it was eons ago. They'll be on the national scene on Friday night against the Marshall Thundering Herd in a game that could be crucial in the C-USA title chase this year. Continue...

Colorado State at New Mexico - 10:15 p.m. ET (ESPN2)

Opening Line: Colorado State -6.5

Preview: The Colorado State Rams have visions dancing in their heads of winning the Mountain Division of the Mountain West this year and perhaps even having an outside shot of reaching the New Year's Six as the top team from the Group of Five. None of that will mean much if they can't go on the road on Friday night and take care of business against the New Mexico Lobos. Continue...

College Football Saturday, October 21, 2017

Maryland at Wisconsin - 12 p.m. ET (BTN)

Opening Line: Wisconsin -24

Preview: Though anyone can question the Wisconsin Badgers' strength of schedule over the course of this season, the one thing they can't question is that '0' in the loss column. For as long as the Badgers have that, they're going to be in the National Championship discussion. The Maryland Terrapins will give it a shot, but their chances of changing that '0' to a '1' are slim to none at Camp Randall on Saturday. Continue...

Oklahoma State at Texas - 12 p.m. ET (ABC)

Opening Line: Oklahoma State -6

Preview: Tom Herman is doing everything he can to keep the Texas Longhorns focused on the task at hand, but deep down, he knows that this season is already lost. The former Houston coach is in the midst of a rebuilding process, and that's why this game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys feels like one that could get ugly in Austin. Continue...

Louisville at Florida State - 12 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Opening Line: Florida State -6.5

Preview: There was a point just a few weeks ago that we all wondered if this game between the Florida State Seminoles and the Louisville Cardinals would be one that helped decide the ACC Atlantic Division title. Instead, both teams have already been saddled with three losses. One is going to avoid falling farther into a pit of despair on Saturday when they clash in Tallahassee. Continue...

Tennessee at Alabama - 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS)

Opening Line: Alabama -33

Preview: At this point, there isn't anything saving Butch Jones' job. The Tennessee Volunteers were projected to compete for the SEC East title this year, but they've already been saddled with three losses and are sure to take on a fourth this week against the Alabama Crimson Tide. After dropping to just 3-4, there will be a real chance the Vols don't even make a bowl game this season, and that would be the final indignation in a coaching tenure that has been nothing but a brutal disappointment. Continue...

Syracuse at Miami - 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Opening Line: Miami -14.5

Preview: Dino Babers is set to make himself a lot of money when the coaching carousel starts to turn in December and January. He guided the Syracuse Orange to one of the biggest upsets of the season last week when they beat Clemson, and now, they're going to have a shot to score another massive win at the expense of the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday in South Beach. Continue...

Oklahoma at Kansas State - 4 p.m. ET (FOX)

Opening Line: Oklahoma -12.5

Preview: The College Football Playoff Selection Committee has to be wondering who in the heck these Oklahoma Sooners are. They looked like gangbusters at the start of the season, complete with Baker Mayfield planted the crimson and cream flag in the middle of the 'O' at Ohio Stadium. Continue...

Oregon at UCLA - 4 p.m. ET (FS1)

Opening Line: UCLA -6.5

Preview: If the UCLA Bruins and Oregon Ducks are being honest with themselves, their seasons are already decisively over with. Both teams have already been saddled with three losses this year, and they're both coming off of embarrassing losses that should have both sets of coaches uneasy as we continue through the rest of the year. This game against each other is only going to merely provide a small respite for the winner. Continue...

Michigan at Penn State - 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC)

Opening Line: Penn State -12.5

Preview: James Franklin and his Penn State Nittany Lions had to feel like they were given the short end of the stick last year when they were left out of the College Football Playoff. This time around, they've got no excuses the rest of the way. They're up to the No. 2 slot in America and have their whole season left in front of them. This is the last shot for the Michigan Wolverines to prove that they belong in the Big Ten title discussion. Continue...

Auburn at Arkansas - 7:30 p.m. ET (SEC Network)

Opening Line: Auburn -13

Preview: Gus Malzahn and the Auburn Tigers are going to rue the day they blew a 20-0 lead in Baton Rouge. The loss took Auburn out of the top 10 in the country, saddled it with its first loss in the SEC and probably took its margin for error down to zero the rest of the way to have any chance to make it to the College Football Playoff. Continue...

USC at Notre Dame - 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC)

Opening Line: Notre Dame -3.5

Preview: The USC Trojans and Notre Dame Fighting Irish were never exactly left for dead this year. That said, no one expected their battle in Week 8 of the season to be a game that could potentially vault the winner immediately back into the College Football Playoff discussion. The one thing that has been assured for weeks is that the loser of this game will essentially be finished in regards to the CFP. There's a lot on the line in South Bend for sure on Saturday. Continue...

Kansas at TCU - 8 p.m. ET (FOX)

Opening Line: TCU -38

Preview: The Kansas Jayhawks can't wait for basketball season to arrive once again. Their football team is back to its bumbling ways, giving up at least 45 points in five consecutive losses. It's hard to see any of that changing on Saturday against the only undefeated team left standing in the Big XII, the TCU Horned Frogs. Continue...

Fresno State at San Diego State - 10:30 p.m. ET (CBSSN)

Opening Line: San Diego State -11.5

Preview: The West Division of the Mountain West was always supposed to be the easier of the divisions. That's clearly played out thus far for the San Diego State Aztecs after watching them plow to two easy victories to start the conference season. That said, after losing to Boise State last week, the Aztecs have gone from ranked in the Top 25 to facing a must-win game at home against the Fresno State Bulldogs if they want to have any chance of ultimately winning its division. Continue...

Colorado at Washington State - 10:45 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Opening Line: Washington State -10.5

Preview: A late-night game on a Friday night is what put the Washington State Cougars on the map. A late-night game on a Friday night a couple weeks later is what took them off of it.
Now, the Cougs are essentially just also-rans in the Pac-12 hoping to stay in the league title hunt by winning as many games as possible. The Colorado Buffaloes don't feel threatening to Wazzu, but then again, neither did California, and we all see how that played out. Continue...
