Week 2 of the College football betting schedule kicks off with NCAA betting action in a NCAA Thursday Night showdown between Idaho State and Utah State at Maverik Stadium. The Aggies will look to capitalize on their home-field edge at 8 p.m. ET, and ESPN2 will televise the contest.
The Big XII hasn't gotten a ton of respect from the CFP Selection Committee over the course of the last few seasons. Now is their chance to make their mark in Week 2 of the season.
The biggest game will pit Oklahoma against Ohio State at the 'Shoe. The Sooners are desperately looking for a big win for Baker Mayfield, a man who could vault himself to the top of the Heisman Trophy conversation with a win on Saturday night. Of course, J.T. Barrett is looking to do the same for the Buckeyes and will be favored to do so. Ohio State opened up at -5.5, but you won't find a spread under a touchdown for the rest of the week. Within two hours of that spread being opened up, the Buckeyes were up to -7.5. Remember that last season, OSU picked up a comfortable win in Norman, and that game probably ended up being the difference between OU and OSU playing in the CFP.
The Big XII will badly need Oklahoma to get a win at night, but TCU beating Arkansas in Fayetteville would help a lot, too. The Horned Frogs and Razorbacks were both convincing winners against bad FCS clubs in Week 1 of the campaign, and they'll both be looking to make a big statement against the other this week in their first serious games.
It's also going to be a big day in the Pac-12, where Stanford and USC will meet. The Trojans have actually lost three straight games in this series, something that is shocking considering the fact that a decade ago, Jim Harbaugh's Cardinal were 39-point underdogs here at the Coliseum in what is still largely considered the biggest upset in college football history. Could these two meet again in the Pac-12 Championship Game? We're not ruling out the possibility.
Clemson and Auburn will also engage in their second straight Tiger Tale. This year, they'll meet in Death Valley, where Clemson is now seeing a path back to the CFP for the third straight season after watching Deondre Francois tear his knee apart against Alabama. Florida State doesn't seem to be nearly as big of a challenge any longer, and if Clemson can survive this game, the coast might essentially be clear the rest of the way.
Idaho State at Utah State, 8 p.m. ET (Local)
Opening Line: Check Back Later
Preview: After five straight days of heart-stopping football in Week 1 of the college football season, Week 2 gets started on a much more modest note. The Utah State Aggies and the Idaho State Bengals will kick off this week in a game that could end up being a lot tougher for the FBS side than you might think. Continue...
Oklahoma State at South Alabama, 8 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Opening Line: Oklahoma State -24.5
Preview: The Oklahoma State Cowboys came out of the blocks with guns blazing this year. Their offense looks to be one of the best in America. This game against the South Alabama Jaguars seems to be a little on the dangerous side, as are any road games against these mid-major teams who are playing in their de facto Super Bowls. Continue...
Ohio at Purdue, 8 p.m. ET (FS1)
Opening Line: Purdue -4
Preview: Jeff Brohm made one heck of a debut with the Purdue Boilermakers. Largely expected to be one of the worst teams in the Big Ten this year, the Boilers played their hearts out against Louisville in the first game of the season, losing 35-28 in spite of the fact that they were whopping 25.5-point underdogs. The shoe, though, is about to be on the other foot. Purdue is a sizeable favorite against an Ohio Bobcats squad that will be amongst the favorites to win the MAC this year, and an upset could certainly be in order at Ross-Ade Stadium on Friday night. Continue...
Florida Atlantic at Wisconsin, 12 p.m. ET (BTN)
Opening Line: Wisconsin -33
Preview: The Wisconsin Badgers needed 15 minutes of football in their opening game of the season to wake up. But boy, when they did, did they ever! The Badgers blew out Utah State last week, and they'll have a similar matchup in Week 2 against the Florida Atlantic Owls. Continue...
Iowa at Iowa State, 12 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Opening Line: Iowa -3, o/u 50.5
Preview: The Iowa Hawkeyes will be out to snag their third straight Cy-Hawk Trophy on Saturday afternoon when Kirk Ferentz’s kids take the bus ride to Ames to lock horns with the hated in-state rival Iowa State Cyclones. Both clubs got their respective seasons started off on the right foot last week with Iowa taking care of business against Wyoming, and ISU toppling Northern Iowa. Though each club secured the dub, neither can be satisfied with their overall play. Continue...
Louisville at North Carolina, 12 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Opening Line: Louisville -8, 61.5
Preview: After stinking the joint out in their home opener against Cal last week, the North Carolina Tar Heels stay in the comforts of their own house for Week 2 looking to snag their first win of the 2017-18 season. Normally a cream puff is scheduled for game No. 2, but that’s hardly the case with reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson and the No. 17 ranked Louisville Cardinals paying Chapel Hill a visit. A conference loss at home would sure sting UNC after getting skunked last week. Continue...
Cincinnati at Michigan, 12 p.m. ET (ABC)
Opening Line: Michigan -29, O/U 48.5
Preview: The Big House will be opened up for the first time this season with Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines kick off their home slate in Week 2 looking to build upon the stellar second half comeback they put forth against the Florida Gators. The betting public believes they cruise to a second win with the pointspread against the Cincinnati Bearcats jumping up to -34 after opening up at -29. After their opponent struggled against an overmatched opponent last week, it’s easy to see why the line moved so much. Continue...
Tulane at Navy, 3:30 p.m. ET (CBSSN)
Opening Line: Navy -13
Preview: The first week of college football in the AAC went almost as well as could be expected. The Navy Midshipmen and Tulane Green Wave were both easy winners in their first efforts of the campaign, and they're now set to embark on their first conference game against each other in Annapolis in Week 2. Continue...
Fresno State at Alabama, 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Opening Line: Alabama -41.5
Preview: The Alabama Crimson Tide are the undisputed No. 1 team in America in the early going, and if they play all year like they did against Florida State, they'll run the table and go down as one of the best of all-time. The Fresno State Bulldogs are only on the docket to get squashed in the home opener in Tuscaloosa, and that's precisely what is sure to happen on Saturday afternoon. Continue...
TCU at Arkansas, 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS)
Opening Line: Arkansas -2.5
Preview: Last season's game between the TCU Horned Frogs and the Arkansas Razorbacks was one of the best of the entire season. If these two put together a similar effort in Week 2, we could be in for a real treat in one of the better non-conference battles of the early portions of the season. Continue...
Pittsburgh at Penn State, 3:30 p.m. ET (ABC)
Opening Line: Penn State -17, O/U 67
Preview: The Penn State Nittany Lions have been bet up to three touchdown favorites after opening up as 17-point favorites to defeat the Pittsburgh Panthers in the in-state rivals second meeting in back-to-back seasons. As good as James Franklin’s kids looked kicking the snot out of Akron last week, it’s easy to see why. However, this is a good old fashioned rivalry that’s only recently started playing again, so you can bet your bottom dollar PITT comes to play on Saturday. Look for some points to hit the board in this one! Continue...
Nebraska at Oregon, 4:30 p.m. ET (FOX)
Opening Line: Oregon -10
Preview: It's got the potential to be a relatively frustrating season for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Mike Riley's team is good for sure, but with Tommy Armstrong Jr. now gone, the Children of the Corn are going through some transitions. The opening game against Arkansas State wasn't great, but now comes the first really tough test against the Oregon Ducks. Continue...
Auburn at Clemson, 7 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Opening Line: Clemson -6
Preview: The Clemson Tigers made a huge statement at the start of the season by crushing Kent State. But these Tigers aren't the only ones that are going to be on the field on Saturday night. The Auburn Tigers are National Championship contenders this year as well, and they're going to be live underdogs in this battle in Death Valley. Continue...
South Carolina at Missouri 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Opening Line: Missouri -3
Preview: Both the South Carolina Gamecocks and Missouri Tigers looked a lot better in Week 1 than most expected would be the case. Now, the two teams are getting together in their first SEC East battle of the season in a game that could provide a tad bit of clarity in a division that might be the most wide open in college football this year. Continue...
Oklahoma at Ohio State, 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC)
Opening Line: Ohio State -5.5
Preview: Both J.T. Barrett and Baker Mayfield made strong opening statements for their respective Heisman Trophy campaigns in Week 1 of the season. Now, they'll lead their Ohio State Buckeyes and Oklahoma Sooners respectively into a tremendous battle in Week 2 of the campaign at the 'Shoe. Continue...
Georgia at Notre Dame, 7:30 p.m. ET (NBC)
Opening Line: Check Back Later
Preview: The Notre Dame Fighting Irish don't play many games under the lights at Notre Dame Stadium. Then again, they also don't bring in SEC teams to South Bend all that often. The only time the Golden Domers met up with the Georgia Bulldogs in the past was way back in 1981, a game UGA won 17-10. Now, the two will clash in front of the watchful eyes of Touchdown Jesus in one of the biggest games of Week 2 of the campaign. Continue...
Stanford at USC, 8:30 p.m. ET (FOX)
Opening Line: USC -5.5
Preview: The USC Trojans had better get themselves ready for their first major fight of the season. After surviving a horrid scare from Western Michigan in their opening game of the season, the Men of Troy will have to contend with the Stanford Cardinal in their first Pac-12 game, a test they had better pass if they want to be serious contenders for the College Football Playoff. Continue...
Minnesota at Oregon State, 10 p.m. ET (FS1)
Opening Line: Minnesota -1
Preview: The Oregon State Beavers are one of the few teams in America to have already played two games this season. They'll be in action once again in Week 3 against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in a game between two teams who have been horrid disappointments thus far this season. Continue...
Utah at BYU, 10:15 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
Opening Line: BYU -1.5
Preview: The rivalry in the Beehive State isn't nearly as notable of a rivalry as it should be. But don't mistake the fact that the Utah Utes and the BYU Cougars absolutely detest each other. They're set to square off in BYU's third game of the campaign, and a team that hoped to challenge for a spot in the College Football Playoff (or at least the New Year's Six) at the outset of the year is already staring a second loss in the face. Continue...
Boise State at Washington State, 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
Opening Line: Washington State -7.5
Preview: Mike Leach's Washington State Cougars put forth a solid first effort of the season against Montana State. They're nowhere near home free yet, but if they can beat the Boise State Broncos at home in Week 2, there's a great chance they're going to be 4-0 and ranked in the top 15 by the time USC comes to town at the end of September. Continue...
Houston at Arizona, 10:30 p.m. ET (ESPNU)
Opening Line: Pick 'Em
Preview: You have to go back 31 years to find the last time the Houston Cougars and Arizona Wildcats got on the field together. They'll renew acquaintances in 2017 in what will be the first game of the season for Houston after having its opener postponed thanks to Hurricane Harvey. Continue...
San Diego State at Arizona State, 11 p.m. ET (Pac-12)
Opening Line: Arizona State -3
Preview: Todd Graham is in the midst of a tremendous year with the Arizona State Sun Devils. His seat is awfully toasty that he's sitting on at the moment, and after barely surviving against New Mexico State, he's going to have to get some answers in a hurry going into Week 2 against the San Diego State Aztecs. Continue...
