Michigan at Penn State Betting Odds - ATS College Football Predictions

College Football Betting OddsEveryone feels the pull of standing up for their team and In the end, they are confident their college team will pull through for them.

College football is one of the most exciting forms of sports entertainment. These players are playing for their future and give a full effort on every play.

College football betting begins with NCAA Division I football games starting in September and continues right through to the BCS Championship game held in January. NCAA football betting is universal. Everyone can appreciate it.

As well, there are lots of football betting options available for sports bettors at time of the year, The NFL usually only has 15 games per week for football betting players and On any given Saturday in the fall there are up to 50 college games being played from morning to midnight.

Also, what makes college football betting so exciting is that NCAA football is so unpredictable.

College GameDay Week 8 - Michigan Wolverines at Penn State Nittany Lions Prediction

Some weeks this season, there haven't been a slew of obvious choices for College GameDay to travel. In Week 8, there was really only one logical selection for college football's biggest pregame show to travel.

In a week which there were four top 10 teams that were upset by unranked teams, Penn State had to be thrilled to not be playing at all. The Nittany Lions are fresh off of their bye from last week, a perfectly placed week off to get ready for arguably the toughest three-game stretch any team in America will have this season. PSU starts off with its game against Michigan, and it has to follow that up with games at Ohio State and Michigan State. Good luck with that.

But first thing's first comes a matchup with Big Blue. Most are down on Michigan right now, knowing that its offense is an absolute train wreck with John O'Korn calling the shots. Jim Harbaugh has zero confidence in his aerial attack at this point, and if Michigan can't move the ball on the ground against Penn State, this game is likely to be over before the Wolverines even get off the bus in Happy Valley.

That said, the Nittany Lions look far from perfect at this point. This is going to be the biggest spotlight game of the year to date for Heisman Trophy favorite, Saquon Barkley. If Barkley is lights out in this game, he'll become the odds-on favorite to win the honor. If he's bottled up, the rest of the field will get a chance to nip at his heels in a hurry.

Toss in the fact that Michigan's chances at winning the Big Ten will be dashed if this game is lost and the fact that this conference still legitimately has a shot to put not just one, but two teams in the CFP this year, and the makings are there for this to easily be the most important game of the week in Week 8.

Location: Beaver Stadium, University Park, PA

Time and Network: Saturday, October 21, 7:30 p.m. ET, ABC

Opening Line: Penn State -12.5

Preview: James Franklin and his Penn State Nittany Lions had to feel like they were given the short end of the stick last year when they were left out of the College Football Playoff. This time around, they've got no excuses the rest of the way. They're up to the No. 2 slot in America and have their whole season left in front of them. This is the last shot for the Michigan Wolverines to prove that they belong in the Big Ten title discussion. Continue...

The Beginning

Originating back in 1987, College GameDay started as a preview show for ESPN, giving college football fans an early look at the games on tap, the matchups and offering predictions.

Just six seasons later, the show went through a major transition and began showing a live game broadcast as part of the show.

On November 13, 1993, No. 1 Florida State took on No. 2 Notre Dame in the most anticipated game of the season. NBC had the rights to broadcast the game and promoted it heavily in the weeks leading up to the matchup. To get in on the ratings bonanza, ESPN decided to move College GameDay to South Bend and broadcast the lead-up to the game and discovered a hit. The next year ESPN went on the road six times and it grew and grew until taking College GameDay on the road became a weekly occurrence.

College GameDay takes place at a different host school based on the game that’s part of that week’s broadcast and the current cast of the show includes Lee Corso, who was one of the original members, alongside Rece Davis and Kirk Herbstreit.

Other current cast members include Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, David Pollack, and Samantha Ponder.

Traditions

Probably the most famous College GameDay tradition involves Lee Corso and headgear. The tradition started in a game between Ohio State and Penn State in October of 1996. The game was in Columbus and Corso wanted a way to distinguish his pick from the other analysts. In front of a raucous home crowd, Corso donned the Brutus the Buckeye headgear and waved to the roaring audience. The fans went nuts and when Ohio State ended up beating Penn State, a tradition was born.

Since that game, Corso has found a creative way to announce his pick 275 more times and his prognostication abilities are pretty good. Over two decades of selections, he has been correct around two-thirds of the time.

Another one of the favorite traditions for College GameDay is seeing the Washington State Cougars’ flag flying somewhere in view of the camera. The tradition started on October 18, 2003 when two Washington State alums decided to bring the flag to the Purdue-Wisconsin game in hopes of getting the show to come to Pullman. The flag has flown proudly at every game ever since thanks to the alumni base. Every week the flag is sent to an alumnus who lives close to the site of the show and it is their responsibility to get the flag on camera. The originators of the idea have a manual on how to best go about this and its carried on ever since.

The Teams

Unsurprisingly, the teams that have been featured on College GameDay the most are the biggest powerhouses in the game. Florida and Alabama have made the most appearances with 36 each, while Ohio State has hosted the most shows on its campus with 14.

The south has been the most common spot for College GameDay since its inception. The SEC is the only conference in college football to have every one of its conference members host at least one episode and three schools, LSU in addition to Florida and Alabama, have hosted College GameDay at least 10 times.

For the 2016 college football season, College GameDay action kicks off on Saturday, September 3, in Green Bay as the Badgers play host once again, this time against the Tigers from Louisiana State. This will be LSU’s 28th appearance on College GameDay while Wisconsin is the home team for just the sixth time.

The Badgers lost their last College GameDay appearance, as did LSU, though the Tigers did come out victorious when they hosted Ole Miss in Baton Rouge as part of College GameDay in 2014.
