One of the strongest betting fields of the year is the first week of August at the WGC - Bridgestone Invitational. The event was formed in 1999 as the NEC Invitational and in 2006, Bridgestone took over as the title sponsor and has been ever since.
Last year Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama blitzed the competition by posting 16-under par to win by five strokes over Zach Johnson. The win was the fifth of his career.
Firestone Country Club, South Course in Akron, Ohio has been the only venue since the tournament’s first year in 1999. Known as The Monster, the Robert Trent Jones design measures 7,400 and plays to a par 70. It’s a beast of a course with the winning score ranging between 6-under par all the way to the record by Tiger Woods of 21-under par in 2000.
Tiger Woods has owned the tournament winning a record eight times. Other past champions include Vijay Singh, Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson.
