The World Surf League (WSL), is the overseeing of the Men's Championship Tour, Women's Championship Tour, Big Wave Tour, Qualifying Series, World Junior Championships and World Longboard Championships.
The World Surf League (WSL) or what was formally known as the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) is the most important competition in professional surfing. It all began and organized by the World Championship Tour (WCT), founded in 1979.
It consists of several individual competitions (11 for the men’s, 10 for the women’s division) at surf spots all over the world, from late February to mid-December, with the most successful surfers being eligible to compete for the title of world champion.
The 2018 WSL Qualifying Series (QS) will be restructured moving forward. The move is ensure the world's best surfers will advancing through to the elite World Championship Tour (WCT) where they can contest for the World Title.
Moving forward, the former seven levels of QS events will become five with naming designations centered around point offerings:
1-Star to become ( QS1000 )
2-Star and 3-Star to merge and become ( QS1500 )
4-Star and 5-Star to merge and become ( QS3000 )
6-Star to become ( QS6000 )
Prime to become ( QS10000 )
A total of 45 male and 17 female competitors of the World Surf League are made up by the best rated surfers of the previous year’s World Tour (27 men, 10 women), the best rated surfers of the Qualifying Series (15 men, 6 women) as well as a number of surfers entering the competition as holders of a wildcard (2 men, 1 woman).
The 2017 Men's Championship Tour Schedule will have 11 events with over $3.4 M in prize money and this years (WSL) World Surf League future odds have been released at Bookmaker Sportsbook with Kelly Slater (USA) as the odds on favorite to win this years Men's Championship Tour.
