Baltimore Ravens Season Preview / 2017 NFL Baltimore Ravens Odds

Baltimore Ravens NFL Odds

Everything that could go wrong for the Baltimore Ravens did, and as a result they were the odd team out in the AFC playoff hunt. Entering Sunday’s game with division rival Cincinnati, the Ravens needed a win or a loss by either Tennessee or Buffalo. Those clubs did what they needed to do and then watched as the Ravens imploded against a team that had nothing to play for but pride.

After one of the most devastating losses in team history, the Ravens are already paying the price of missing out on the postseason for a third consecutive season. It’s the longest stretch of playoff-less football since the franchise began its existence in 1996 and went four years without a postseason game. The club made up for it in its fifth year, however, winning the first of two Super Bowl titles following the 2000 campaign. The Ravens moved into position to break their two-year postseason hiatus on the strength of a strong defense, only to see the group breakdown at the biggest moment of the year.

Leading the Bengals late, the Ravens allowed a fourth-down touchdown pass with less than a minute to play to seal their fate. Owners of one of the worst offenses in the NFL, Cincinnati scored a season-high point total and as a result defensive coordinator Dean Pees announced his retirement. For most teams that fail to reach the postseason, we could see more changes as the off-season begins earlier than most in Baltimore expected.

2017 Baltimore Ravens Game Results

Week 17: Bengals 31, Ravens 27

ATS Result: Bengals +8

Over/Under Total Result: Over 40

Needing a win to qualify for the postseason, the Ravens twice rallied from 14-points down, taking their last lead on a Joe Flacco touchdown pass with less than nine minutes left in the fourth. Needing a defensive stand to clinch, the Ravens allowed Cincy to go 90 yards, giving up the game-winning 49-yard touchdown on a fourth-and-12 with 44 seconds to play. With one last chance, the Ravens turned the ball over on downs.

Week 16: Ravens 23, Colts 16

ATS Result: Colts +13.5

Over/Under Total Result: Under 41

The Ravens didn’t force a turnover, but they came up with the biggest defensive stand of the game to hold off the Colts, but failed to cover the spread. Leading 23-16 on the strength of two Flacco touchdown passes and three Justin Tucker field goals, Baltimore had a punt blocked late in the fourth setting up the Colts with prime field position. A tackle for loss and a sack pushed Indy back and Jacoby Brissett threw an incomplete pass on fourth down.

Week 15: Ravens 27, Browns 10

ATS Result: Ravens -6.5

Over/Under Total Result: Under 42

Flacco’s touchdown run with three minutes left in the first half gave the Ravens the lead for good and his scoring pass to Benjamin Watson two minutes later added on. Baltimore allowed just two yards on Cleveland’s first three second half drives and secured a third straight cover win when Brandon Williams scored on a fumble return midway through the third quarter.

Week 14: Steelers 39, Ravens 38

ATS Result: Ravens +6

Over/Under Total Result: Over 43

The Ravens went toe-to-toe with an inspired team and covered the spread for a second straight game. Bouncing back from an early 14-0 deficit, they took a 31-20 lead late in the third quarter. Scoring on six of seven possessions at one point, the Ravens still had a 38-29 advantage after Buck Allen scored with under seven minutes left in the fourth, but there was too much time remaining. When they needed a drive late, the Ravens went three-and-out, giving Pitt a chance at the game-winning field goal.

Week 13: Ravens 44, Lions 20

ATS Result: Ravens -2.5

Over/Under Total Result: Over 43

The offense finally produced and the Ravens cruised to their third straight victory, easily covering the 2.5-point spread. Flacco’s two TD passes and a pair of Justin Tucker field goals staked Baltimore to a 20-0 lead at halftime and they withstood an early second half attack by the Lions, sealing the game with a Collins scoring run and Weddle’s pick-six to reach the total on their own.

Week 12: Ravens 23, Texans 16

ATS Result: Texans +7.5

Over/Under Total Result: Under 39.5

John Harbaugh reached into his bag of tricks to help ignite the club and it worked. The Ravens were successful on a fake punt and converted a pair of fourth-down attempts to do just enough damage, though they failed to cover the spread. Collins scored on an 8-yard run for a 14-7 second quarter lead and Justin Tucker added three field goals. It was Levine’s interception on Houston’s final drive that sealed the outcome, however.

Week 11: Ravens 23, Packers 0

ATS Result: Ravens -2.5

Over/Under Total Result: Under 38.5

The Ravens were outgained by Green Bay, but they scored 13 points off six turnovers and that was more than enough to cover the 2.5-point spread. A pair of Justin Tucker field goals gave Baltimore a 6-0 lead at the break and Flacco hit Mike Wallace for the first touchdown early in the third. Alex Collins capped the scoring with a short run one play after Humphrey returned his pick 15-yards.

Week 10: BYE

Week 9: Titans 23, Ravens 20

ATS Result: PUSH Ravens +3

Over/Under Total Result: Over 41

The Ravens were held without a touchdown until midway through the final quarter and by then it was too late. Flacco’s second TD pass of the quarter came with 46 seconds left and Justin Tucker’s extra point allowed the Ravens to push and cash the over for a fifth straight game, but they failed to recover the ensuing onside kick and the Titans ran out the clock.

Week 8: Ravens 40, Dolphins 0

ATS Result: Ravens -3

Over/Under Total Result: Over 38

It was a defensive performance reminiscent of the Ravens. They held Miami to fewer than 200 total yards and returned two interceptions for scores to break a two-game SU and ATS losing skid. Flacco tossed a TD pass before leaving the game and the D took over from there. Smith returned his pick 50-yards with just over four minutes left to cash the over, despite Baltimore pitching its second shutout of the year.

Week 7: Vikings 24, Ravens 16

ATS Result: Vikings -5

Over/Under Total Result: Over 37.5

It was another woeful performance by the offense. The Ravens managed just 208 total yards, but their only touchdown, which came on the game’s final play, did allow the over to cash for a third straight game. They played solid defensively, allowing just one touchdown, but the Vikings converted six field goals, which proved to be the difference as Baltimore failed to cover in a second straight game.

Week 6: Bears 27, Ravens 24 (OT)

ATS Result: Bears +5.5

Over/Under Total Result: Over 39.5

Baltimore failed to score an offensive touchdown, but two kick return scores and a pick-six thrown by Flacco were enough to cash the over for a second consecutive game. The Ravens overcame an 11-point deficit in the final five minutes, tying the game on Campanaro’s punt return and a two-point conversion to seemingly grab momentum. However, their inability to stop the run cost them in the end. A long run in OT set Chicago up for the game-winning field goal as the Ravens fell to 3-3 ATS.

Week 5: Ravens 30, Raiders 17

ATS Result: Ravens +3

Over/Under Total Result: Over 40.5

Playing a team without its starting quarterback, the Ravens did exactly what they needed to break their 2-game SU and ATS losing streak. They scored on the opening drive then used a Jimmy Smith fumble return touchdown to put the Raiders in an early hole. They also got a good game from Flacco, who threw for 222 yards and set up a pair of scores with long pass plays, something that had been missing from the offense. The result was a season-high point total.

Week 4: Steelers 26, Ravens 9

ATS Result: Steelers -3.5

Over/Under Total Result: Under 42

Flacco might have sucked, but he had a lot of help as the Ravens never came close to covering the spread or cashing the over. The offense continues to struggle with Flacco sacked four times while throwing a pair of interceptions. The defense played much better than last week, but without any help, it was another frustrating loss.

Week 3: Jaguars 44, Ravens 7

ATS Result: Jaguars +3

Over/Under Total Result: Over 38

The Ravens went three-and-out on their first four drives and the fifth didn’t get a chance after Flacco’s interception on the first play. At that point they were down 20-0 and given their struggles on offense when winning, the deficit was insurmountable. Mallett threw a late touchdown pass to avoid the shutout, but the Ravens lost ATS for the first time while the Jags covered the total by themselves.

Week 2: Ravens 24, Browns 10

ATS Result: Ravens -7.5

Over/Under Total Result: Under 39.5

The Ravens forced five more turnovers, giving them a whopping 10 in two games, and converted two of those miscues into touchdowns, which turned out to be difference in a 24-10 victory. Both takeaways resulted in a short field and the Ravens took advantage. The result was another game below the closing total and the under has cashed both times.

Week 1: Ravens 20, Bengals 0

ATS Result: Ravens +2.5

Over/Under Total Result: Under 41.5

Entering the game as a 2.5-point dog, it was an easy cover for the Ravens, who pitched their first shutout since Week 10 of the 2009 season when they dropped Cleveland 16-0. A hamstring injury to Danny Woodhead could prevent the offense from scoring more points, which gives value to the under.

Pre-Season Baltimore Ravens Results

Preseason Record: 4-0

ATS Record: 4-0

Over/Under Record: 1-3

The defense looks to be in mid-season form after the first-teamers didn’t allow a point and the group surrendered a total of 32 points during the exhibition season. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the offense lacked efficiency during the preseason with Ryan Mallett as the starter. Flacco is expected to play on Sunday, but the Ravens kept just two QBs on the 53-man roster, meaning Mallett will backup if Flacco’s back injury flares up.
