Asian Handicap Sportsbook Odds
Asian handicap Sports Betting Guide
The majority of sports bettors are used to dealing with money lines, totals and point spreads. But there's another type of odds used by boomakers today, and it's called, the Asian handicap line.
Originating in Indonesia and spreading throughout Asia, these betting odds are quite popular with soccer or what is known as football matches in the Europe. It is a great way to bet on soccer and really quite simple once you understand the basics.
Asian handicap betting offers the underdog of the game with an early lead before the kick off. You have two options. Betting on "home team" or "away team".
Just like with a regular goal line you get points with the underdog or give up points with the favorite to even out the playing field. While a goal line for a soccer match might be Arsenal -1.5 goals, the Asian Handicap line would be -1.25.
This does not mean that you are giving up 1.25 goals. What the Asian Handicap does is split your bet in two. Half of your wager will go to -1 and the other half to -1.5. The reason it is represented in that way is because 1.25 is in the middle, between 1 and 1.5.
For example: The line on the Arsenal is -1.25 -120 and you want to bet $100.
Instead of betting $120 to win $100 on the Arsenal, as if it were a regular goal line, you will split your bet: $60/$50 on Arsenal -1 and the other $60/$50 on Arsenal -1.5.
In order for you to win the full $100, Arsenal will have to win by two points.
But if Arsenal were to win by only one point, you would not lose 100% of your bet as you would on the goal line -1.5. You would tie the first $60/50 Arsenal -1 and lose the second $60 Arsenal -1.5 . So instead of losing $100, you only lost $60.
Benefits of Betting in Asian Handicaps:
It offers great value to the sports bettor and is potentially less risky than traditional "Win-Draw-Win" style betting.
As well, you have a 50% better chance of winning than with traditional odds and it eliminates the possibility of a push. At the moment, this may not make sense because ties are common in soccer.
So let's further explain this type of odds, starting with the basics.
Asian Handicap is a form of betting where the perceived weaker team or underdog is given a number of goals head start. Conversely, the team perceived to be superior "the favourite" is penalised or "handicapped" an equal number of goals in an attempt to make the two teams equal for betting purposes.
The favourite has to overcome the handicap, and will have it taken away from its final score. The handicap for the favourite is preceded by a minus ( - ). The underdog is given a head-start, and will have it added to its final score. The handicap for the underdog is preceded by a plus ( + ).
The wider the gap between the two teams, the greater the number of goals head start is given to the weaker team. If the two teams’ on-field ability is considered to be approximately equal, no handicap is given to either team.
Asian Handicap is taking the sports betting world by storm and is very popular with the sportsbooks we list on our site.
