Manchester City vs. Manchester United TV Coverage: NBCSN
Manchester City continue to be the class of the Premier League. They are the odds-on favorite to repeat as Premier League champions, and they are now two points up on both Chelsea and Liverpool. They are 9-2-0 on the year with the draws coming on the road against Wolves and Liverpool. At home, they have been phenomenal, beating five of their six opponents by two goals or more.
As for the Red Devils, Jose Mourinho has rewarded the team’s patience by turning things around over the last month. Manchester United still don’t sit in a great spot in the Premier League, where they are currently seventh, but they were down in 12th just a short time ago. They have also salvaged their Champions League hopes through some good fortune. A fluky win over Juventus earlier in the week puts them in a great spot to advance, and they have won three games and drawn one in the Premier League since their loss to West Ham.
The Citizens won’t have Kevin de Bruyne available for this game. Manchester City’s midfielder has had an injury-plagued campaign, hurting one knee and now the other, and he is expected to be out until just before the Christmas break. Claudio Bravo and Eliaquim Mangala are long-term injury absences.
Two key players have already been ruled out for Manchester United. Antonio Valencia has been dealing with some injuries, and he will be sidelined for this one. The veteran midfielder has had a rough go of it this year, and he will certainly be looking forward to the break. Fullback Diogo Dalot has been scratched from the lineup too due to a knock. Forward Romelu Lukaku is considered a gametime decision, and the club is desperately hoping he’ll be available.
Manchester United Player to Watch
If Lukaku can’t go, it will be up to Alexis Sanchez to create a lot of offense. Sanchez has been one of Mourinho’s favorite players since coming over from Arsenal, and he has seemed to lift the team when they needed it the most. He scored the game winner that likely saved Mourinho’s job against Newcastle United, and Sanchez is known for picking up gritty goals.
Manchester City Player to Watch
Raheem Sterling could do nothing but give a sheepish grin after picking up one of the weirdest penalties you will ever see. Sterling tripped over his own two feet on a run against Shakhtar Donetsk in Champions League action, and the last few weeks have been filled with plenty of jokes about the referee’s decision to point to the spot. That’s something Sterling has been known for, as his speed and agility gives him great chances, but he is not always the best at finishing those opportunities.
Manchester City vs. Manchester United Betting Prediction
I see this being a big win for Manchester City. Dalot, Lukaku, and Valencia are all normally starters for United, and not having those players hurts, especially against a City side playing out of their minds. The Citizens have looked incredible in Pep Guardiola’s system the last two years, and they are free-flowing on the attack and create great chances. Look for them to beat United by two or three goals.
