Italian Grand Prix Odds and Picks

Formula 1 Betting Odds

Lewis Hamilton is the odds-on favorite to win the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday on NBCSN. Hamilton is coming off a win in Belgium but he still trails Sebastian Vettel in the F1 standings. Hamilton is listed at odds of -140 to win Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix, while Vettel is the second choice at +300. The only other driver given much of a chance is Valtteri Bottas at odds of +600. Let’s look at the race and F1 picks.

Vettel Optimistic

Even though Vettel lost to Hamilton in Belgium, he is optimistic about his chances of winning the championship. “I think the positive thing is that we had very good race pace," Vettel said about the race in Belgium. "It was very difficult to follow in the middle sector but we stayed close and then we benefit in the first and last sector. Overall the car was very good. I'm very, very happy. I think we are on the right track and I don't think we have a circuit we should fear, going from now."

Hamilton Cautious

Hamilton is well aware of just how close Vettel was in Belgium and Hamilton said Ferrari could be tough to deal with the rest of the season. Hamilton is just seven points behind Vettel in the standings but Hamilton said to the Daily Star that Ferrari has a strong car. “I think Ferrari were ultimately quicker. I was just able to keep them at bay,” Hamilton said about the Belgian Grand Prix. “But if our cars were reversed, I don’t think I would have been able to hold as close as he did. If anyone’s out there thinking we have the best car this year then they need to think again because it’s not the case. ... We might have the upper hand in power, but that’s not enough – we have to keep improving.”

Hamilton realizes that his Mercedes team has to get better. “I think we have the upper hand power-wise, but we’ve got to keep improving,” he said, “The pressure is on. The next race, package-wise, should be similar to this weekend, but when we get to Singapore that’s really where the test is going to be – and where Ferrari should be really fast, as they were in Hungary.”

Race Notes

Monza is a track which favors power so Mercedes should have the edge. Hamilton has won the pole in each of the last three years. Mercedes has won the last three Italian Grand Prix’s. Ferrari has not won the race since 2010.

F1 Picks

Hamilton should win this race but it is hard to take him at odds-on, so I will take the +300 and go with Vettel.
