Claudia Gadelha -265
Jessica Andrade +185
Over/under 2.5 rounds, over -190, under +150
Both women are savages that impose their immense power in different ways. Gadelha is athletic beast who shreds fighters on the mat with world-class BJJ skills. Andrade is a bulldozer who marches forward and pummels opponents with power shots.
On the feet, the advantage goes to Andrade. While Gadelha has all the tools to be a great striker, but she is still developing as a standup artist. That’s not to say Claudinha can’t spar - she did knock down Joanna Jedrzejczyk with a jab - but there isn’t much polish or depth to her striking game.
Andrade, on the other hand, is extremely comfortable pressing forward and lighting up her opponents. Her stout, compact frame is built to take punishment, and she can generate incredible power in short distances. Not unlike John Lineker or Wanderlei Silva, Andrade is especially dangerous when she’s got opponents trapped up against the cage.
When it comes to grappling, there isn’t a strawweight in the UFC who can match up with Gadelha. She recently became the first woman to stop famously durable Karolina Kowalkiewicz, and it took her less than a round to do so. Her extraordinary power and athleticism gives her the option to simply drag most opponents to the mat - from there it’s only a matter of time before she finds a submission.
How You Should Bet
The question here is whether Gadelha can take Andrade down. I don’t see it happening: “Bate Estaca” is too stout and strong to simply be pulled to the mat. Gadelha has tired herself out trying to force a grappling game, and there’s a good chance that it happens here. At nearly 2-1 underdog odds, Andrade is a strong play for an upset.
