Ryan Bader -340 vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Bader will be facing Nogueira in Brazil so there is no question that Nogueira will get almost all of the crowd support. Bader isn’t worried about the crowd saying, “My preparation is the experience,” Bader said. “The Brazilian crowd is really passionate, a home team crowd. I know I’m not gonna be cheered on there. It is what it is. I’ll use that as fuel for me. If there is passion and energy, it doesn’t matter if it’s for me or against me, I can feed off of that.”
Bader and Nogueira actually fought six years ago at UFC 119 and it was Bader getting the win. Bader realizes that he has to win this fight and then beat one of the top three fighters in the rankings to get a title shot. “I believe I’m one fight away at all times from getting a title shot and being up there.” Bader said, “I have to beat one of those top three guys.”
Bader had won five straight fights but then lost to Anthony Johnson in January. Bader did bounce back to defeat Ilir Latifi two months ago. Bader said that he is a much better fighter now than when he was six years ago when he bet Nogueria. “I’m not even close to the fighter I was six years ago. I’m proficient on my feet and on the ground; I’m experienced having fought everybody.” Bader said.
Nogueira is 40-years old and likely not far away from retirement but not yet.
“I had a rough patch,” Nogueira said, “This year, I’ve been blessed. Doing my second fight in one year is already a blessing. Next year I’m sure I’m going into it well, hopefully with a win, and will get back with three fights. Increase that goal.”
Nogueira said that this will be a tough fight for him saying, “It’s a dangerous fight. But now I’ve been very focused on takedown defense, and I think the best way of defending yourself against a guy like Bader is attacking him first.
I think Bader will win but the price at more than 3-1 is too high. I will avoid a side and just take the rounds over.
