Bellator NYC - Sonnen vs. Silva Picks

Bellator 180 Betting Odds

The best Bellator card in history is set for Saturday, June 24th with Chael Sonnen taking on Wanderlei Silva in the main event of Bellator NYC at Madison Square Garden in New York. There are five fights on the main pay-per-view portion of the card that begins at 10 pm Eastern. There are four fights on the Spike TV portion of the card, which is being referred to as Bellator 180 and there are five preliminary bouts which can be seen on Bellator.com. Let’s look at the event with a focus on Sonnen vs. Silva and Bellator picks.

Bet Bellator 180

Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva

Sonnen is 40 years old and well past his prime and better off in the broadcast booth than he is in the Octagon, but he is still probably better than Silva. Sonnen is 29-15-1 in his career but he is coming off a loss to Tito Ortiz at Bellator 170 in January.

Silva is also 40 years old but he hasn’t even fought since beating Brian Stann early in 2013. It is almost unheard of for a fighter to be out of action for more than four years and then get back into action.

Sonnen said to Flo Combat that he is not even sure Silva will show up for this event. "I'm not positive [Silva] is coming," Sonnen said. "I will be there. I gave my word and will be there no matter what happens, but I don't know about him. In baseball you have the three strike rule, and he already has two strikes against him. We had a press conference and he skipped it. We did another press conference and he skipped that as well. The only thing left is the fight.”

Sonnen and Silva have a true hatred for one another and Sonnen has been waiting a long time to take care of Silva. "I've been waiting to fight him for basically my entire career,' Sonnen said.

Bellator Picks

Sonnen doesn’t have the ability he once had, but Silva has not fought in more than four years. It is hard to see how Silva wins this fight, so I will take Sonnen to get the win.
