The odds on the Breeders’ Cup Classic have changed recently, as Diversify finished a poor fifth in Jockey Club Gold Cup. The odds on Diversify have now risen to 7-1, behind Accelerate, Catholic Boy, Good Magic and McKinzie. Sportsbooks are still listing a large number of horses to win this race. Official entries for the Breeders’ Cup will be announced in upcoming days and the field will be 20 horses or less.
Breeders’ Cup Betting Facts
It is hard to like a horse like Diversify in the Classic, as a closer has won five of the last six Breeders’ Cup Classics and Diversify is a speed horse. It is tough to take any of the longshots, as only one horse has won the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs at odds of 10-1 or more and that was Drosselmeyer at odds of 15-1. The favorite has not done well at Churchill Downs in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, winning just once, but you may want to bet the favorite to place as the post time favorite has finished second four times in eight races.
Breeders’ Cup Horse to Watch
Keep an eye on Newspaperofrecord who looked good in winning the Miss Grillo Stakes. The horse should go in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and trainer Chad Brown has won that race four times.
West Coast could be the horse to bet in the Classic. The horse looked good in his first race back but couldn’t quite handle Accelerate in the Awesome Again. West Coast should be better in the Classic, as he needed his last race. Keep in mind that trainer Bob Baffert has won the Breeders’ Cup Classic three times.
Another horse to watch is Channel Maker who won the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont Park. He should do well in the Breeders’ Cup Turf and go off at nice odds. He could be the U.S. horse to challenge the European horses in the Turf.
