Kentucky Derby Betting Odds and Picks on Saturday on NBC

Kentucky Derby 2016 Odds and Predictions

Nyquist is the favorite to win the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday on NBC. Nyquist is unbeaten in his seven races and is listed as the 4-1 morning line favorite. It used to be that the Kentucky Derby was a race to bet against the favorite but that has not been the case in recent years with American Pharoah winning as the favorite last year while California Chrome won as the favorite two years ago and Orb won as the favorite three years ago.

Let’s look at Saturday’s race and Kentucky Derby picks.

Kentucky Derby Betting Odds at Diamond Sportsbook

Nyquist 4-1

Exaggerator 7-1

Mohaymen 7-1

Mor Spirit 11-1

Brody’s Cause 11-1

Destin 12-1

My Man Sam 13-1

Gun Runner 14-1

Creator 14-1

Suddenbreakingnews 18-1

Mo Tom 18-1

Outwork 19-1

Danzing Candy 24-1

Whitmore 24-1

Lani 27-1

Shagaf 32-1

Majesto 38-1

Tom’s Ready 48-1

Trojan Nation 52-1

Oscar Nominated 60-1

There are three horses likely to go off at single-digit odds in Nyquist, Mohaymen and Exaggerator. You can make a case for or against all three horses. Many people liked Mohaymen before he ran a poor race in the Florida Derby and lost to Nyquist. There is a good chance that Mohaymen will bounce back with a good race on Saturday. Nyquist has done nothing wrong winning all of his races but there are questions about him going a mile and a quarter and no unbeaten horse has won the Derby since Big Brown in 2008. Exaggerator won the Santa Anita Derby but he can’t beat Nyquist as he is 0-3 against him.

Live Darkhorses

This race just screams for a horse to beat one of the three favorites and there are a lot of contenders. There might be as many as 10 horses that go off at odds from 10-1 to 20-1. Mor Spirit might be the best of those horses and he is trained by Bob Baffert who won last year with American Pharoah. Gun Runner and Creator are trained by Steve Asmussen who just went into the Hall of Fame but has never won the Derby. Brody’s Cause is a deep closer who could steal this race for trainer Dale Romans. Mo Tom is owned by New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson and you can make a case for him if he gets a good trip as four of his seven starts have seen him get into trouble.

Kentucky Derby Picks

I will take Mohaymen at odds of 7-1 and I will also go with Mor Spirit at odds of 11-1. For exacta, trifecta and superfecta possibilities I will include Creator, Mo Tom and Outwork.
