Horse Racing Odds - Will a Horse Lead Wire To Wire at the Belmont Stakes

Belmont Stakes Betting Odds

On Saturday, June 7th, 12 of the best three-year old horses in the world will take to the track at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY.

Post-time is set for 6:30 p.m. ET for the 139th running of the Belmont Stakes, and this clash on the horse racing odds can be seen live on NBC.

Belmont Stakes Betting Odds

A Horse Leads Wire To Wire: +400

Winner Doesn't Lead Wire To Wire: -700

The one key factor here that we feel that we need to point out is that there has to be a horse who is willing to go out to the front of the field that legitimately could beat the horse racing betting odds to cash on this prop. Just logically speaking, you wouldn't think that it would be California Chrome, who would prefer being right off of the lead in all likelihood.

That being said, it's important to try to figure out who could be going out to the lead in this race. With the scratch of Intense Holiday and Ring Weekend, there isn't really a front-running colt in the field. Tonalist and Samraat are both possibilities, but neither have ever led a race going into the first turn in their entire careers. Aside from that, there are a lot of positional colts in this field, none of which are going to want to be pushed all the way to the front in all likelihood.

The bottom line here on the horse racing gambling odds is that this is going to be a heck of an intriguing race. The next most likely horse to come out to the front of the pack is California Chrome. The Triple Crown contender started off third best at the Preakness Stakes and was in a very similar position at the Kentucky Derby as well, and Jockey Victor Espinoza is awfully comfortable leaving him just off of the pace at the start as opposed to making him a pace setter.

However, it isn't unprecedented for California Chrome to be at the head of the pack. He started off with the lead at the San Felipe Stakes before ultimately winning the race by 7 1/4 lengths, the biggest margin of victory he has had in a race in his career.

It's not all that unbelievable to think that the Triple Crown could be won in the most stunning of fashions, a wire to wire romp at the 1 1/2-mile Belmont Stakes, something that hasn't been accomplished since Secretariat pulled away from Sham and the rest of the pack to win in epic time. Though we don't believe that it is going to happen on June 7th, we do think there is at least a 1 in 4 chance that California Chrome could end up at the head of the field at the start. If that's the case, the horse racing wagering odds dictate this being a strong bet.
