Horse Racing Odds - Belmont Stakes Early Look

Belmont Stakes Early Look Racetrack Odds

The drama won't be quite as high this year at the Belmont Stakes as it was the last two years when American Pharoah won the Triple Crown and California Chrome came up just short of it. That said, with Exaggerator and Nyquist very likely settling their feud at Belmont Park on June 11, this is still a race with a huge prize pool which horse racing bettors aren't going to want to miss.

You can find horse racing odds at BookMaker.eu at the online racebook.

ODDS ANALYSIS

Early indications suggest that Nyquist and Exaggerator are once again going to be the two favorites to win this race as they were at both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. Most will forget that Nyquist was edged out for second by Cherry Wine at the wire of the Preakness, and that won't be anything which is considered by most for the Belmont.

As is often the case in horse racing, bettors and oddsmakers react to what they just saw, and they really don't have a choice, especially with horses this young. The Belmont Stakes was always thought to be a race which favored Exaggerator's late running style, and now that he has himself a win over Nyquist, he's expected to be the slight favorite to win the third leg of the Triple Crown.

It's still far too early to tell who else is going to join these two at the Belmont Stakes, and the size of the field is going to matter tremendously when it comes to lining these two horses. We're confident that the field is going to be a lot better at the Belmont than it was at the Preakness, but we still can't see a situation in which Exaggerator and Nyquist aren't the first and second favorites in some order assuming they both run.

If only one and not the other ends up coming to Belmont Park, there's a decent chance the one that does come will end up being the odds-on favorite if the field is around 10 horses or so.

AND THE REST…

There are a few ponies which are certainly pointed towards the Belmont Stakes aside from Nyquist and Exaggerator.

You'd figure that Lani is going to give this one more shot after failing miserably in both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. His ownership declared after winning the UAE Derby that the Japanese horse was going to run it out in the Triple Crown regardless of what happened, and they were true to their word by bringing Lani to Pimlico after the bad day at Churchill Downs.

Stradivari is a question mark at this point after he was definitively nowhere near as good as either Nyquist or Exaggerator in spite of a really game run. This would be just his fifth race, and it's a big ask for Todd Pletcher to run this colt a mile and a half. Instead, we suspect Pletcher will bring Destin back from the Kentucky Derby to try to run against the two top dogs.

Mor Spirit, Creator, Suddenbreakingnews and Brody's Cause are all potential entrants from the Kentucky Derby, while Cherry Wine could end up running once again in the Belmont after his second place finish in the Preakness.

The Peter Pan Stakes is often a race which provides three-year olds with a shot to get into the Belmont Stakes without running in either of the first two legs of the Triple Crown. Unified won that race as an odds-on favorite, but he isn't pointed to the Belmont Stakes since he, like Stradivari, has only raced a few times in his career.

Instead, we suspect the second-favorite at the Peter Pan, Adventist along with the second place finisher, Governor Malibu could be pointed towards the mile and a half marathon.
