This race looks to be wide open with five horses who could win the race. The only two that don’t look like they have a shot are Weekend Hideaway who would only be entered if this race is run on the main track and Divisidero who was entered in the Arlington Million but pulled from that race and entered here.
Heart to Heart is the leading money winner in this race and he likes to run on the lead. He has won 15 of his 36 races and is very consistent. He is 2-for-2 at Saratoga and there is no reason to think he won’t be right there on Saturday.
The morning line odds have Yoshida as the second choice, but I am not sold, He got his first Grade 1 win in the Turf Classic at Churchill Downs but he was fifth at Royal Ascot last time out. The horse runs from off the pace and I just don’t like his style or the fact that he is returning from Royal Ascot.
Delta Prince looked good in winning the King Edward at Woodbine in late June. The horse has never finished out of the money running on grass and is worth a strong look in this race. His trainer Jimmy Jerkens is hoping the course isn’t too soft. "Let's hope it's not too soft," Jerkens said to the media, "He seems to struggle a little bit. He ran very well in his race last year [Bernard Baruch], but I could tell it was a little soft and he kind of struggled a little bit more so than when it's firm."
Made You Look looked good in finishing second to Oscar Performance in the Grade 3 Poker Stakes. The horse is trained by Chad Brown and he could have a lot of value at odds of 8-1.
Voodoo Song has won four straight races at Saratoga going back to last year. He finished third in the Poker Stakes and then won the Forbidden Apple. He should go to the lead but whether he can hold on is the question. The other problem is the course, which could be soft. "Clearly he loves the turf," trainer Linda Rice said to the media, "He likes the configuration here. Last year, we got very little rain and he likes it hard and fast. This year, he has run at Belmont on softer turf and has actually performed quite well. I would prefer a firm course for him, and I don't know if we will have that."
The Fourstardave Handicap was named after Fourstardave who won at least one race at the Spa from 1987 to 1994 including five stakes races. The race had previously been known as Daryl’s Joy but was renamed the Fourstardave in 1996.
Fourstardave Handicap Picks
We know that Heart to Heart and Voodoo Song are going to go to the front in this race and dare the rest of the field to catch them. There are a number of closers in this race that would have a chance if this race turns into a speed duel. I think Delta Prince is the best of those closers and I will take the horse to win at odds of 4-1.
