Belmont Stakes Betting Odds and Predictions

Belmont Stakes Betting Lines

Exaggerator is the odds-on favorite to win the Belmont Stakes on Saturday that can be seen on NBC. Exaggerator is coming off a win in the Preakness and with Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist not in the field for the Belmont, the odds favor Exaggerator. The Belmont is the longest of the three Triple Crown races and sometimes a bit unpredictable. The favorite has won this race 42 percent of the time but surprisingly odds-on favorites have not done quite as well, winning 38 percent of the time.

Here is a look at Saturday’s race and Belmont predictions.

Belmont Stakes Odds

Exaggerator 5-6

Suddenbreakingnews 5-1

Cherry Wine 6-1

Stradivari 8-1

Governor Malibu 12-1

Destin 15-1

Brody’s Cause 17-1

Creator 20-1

Gettysburg 20-1

Lani 20-1

Forever d’Oro 35-1

Seeking the Soul 35-1

Trojan Nation 35-1

Belmont Stakes Handicapping

There are definite questions as to whether Exaggerator should be listed as a big favorite in this race. He did look good in winning the Preakness but that was in the slop. Now the horse has to go a mile and a half after running just three weeks ago. There are three other horses expected to go off at single-digit odds in Suddenbreakingnews, Cherry Wine and Stradivari. Suddenbreakingnews was fifth in the Kentucky Derby; Cherry Wine was second in the Preakness while Stradivari was fourth in the Preakness.

You can make a case for Suddenbreaking news but there is very little value in him at odds of 5-1. He should like the added distance but again, odds of 5-1 are simply too low. The same can be said about Cherry Wine who would benefit from a fast pace in the Belmont as he is a deep closer. But at odds of 6-1 there is no value. Stradivari should have the stamina to win this race as his sire, Medaglia d’Oro, ran second in the 2002 Belmont.

Live Longshots

An interesting longshot is Creator who will go off at double-digit odds for trainer Steve Asmussen. He got a bad trip in the Derby so you can write that off and he is a good closer. He should also get a lot of help from Gettysburg who was entered to provide a lot of early speed in this race. Another horse going off at double-digit odds to consider is Destin for trainer Todd Pletcher who can’t win the Derby but he can win the Belmont. He has two Belmont wins and his horses normally do really well after five weeks off.

Belmont Picks

Exaggerator might just be good enough to win this race but I am not taking him at odds-on. I think Creator and Destin are the two horses who could hit at double-digit odds at Diamond sportsbook so I will take them to win and also box them in an exacta with Exaggerator.
