Senators vs. Rangers Game 6 TV Coverage
If you didn't know the final scores of the games in this series, you'd probably think that the Rangers have the 3-2 edge and probably should have already finished things off. Outside of Game 2 when Jean-Gabriel Pageau really took over and scored his four goals, including the winner in double overtime, New York has looked the part of the better team. It's been just a mere underdog on the road and a sizeable favorite at home, and the two games played previously here at MSG were both easy 4-1 victories in which the Senators looked completely overmatched.
Yet it's the Blueshirts who have their backs against the wall on Tuesday night. They blew a Game 5 they definitely should have won thanks to some really sloppy play in the final couple minutes, and they were punished in overtime by Kyle Turris' winner.
Credit to Ottawa for continuing to fight every step of the way. The Sens had every reason to turn their backs on Game 5 and just get pummeled, but they came back from down 2-0 in the first 5:13 of that game, took a 3-2 lead, came back again from down 4-3 and ultimately won it in OT.
Go back and watch the big moments the Senators had in Game 5. They mostly started with faceoff wins. That margin got a little closer in the third period, but when the dust settled, Ottawa went 41-31 in the faceoff circles in Game 5.
Ottawa has had a huge advantage in the dots over the course of this series, and not surprisingly, Turris ended up being the big hero after his great effort in Game 5. He went 15-8 in the faceoff department and ultimately help setup his own game-winner.
The Sens have to do all of the little things right if they're going to see this series out at this point, and New York is going to have to figure out how to get some more faceoff wins to control early possessions to survive.
Senators vs. Rangers Game 6 Free Picks
After two really bad games in New York in Games 3 and 4, we think Ottawa is going to finish this one off in front of the faithful at MSG.
There's just something about the way these Rangers looked absolutely shaken at the end of regulation and for the most part in overtime, and hitting the post early on in the next frame seemed to be the final deathblow. New York never did get a shot on Craig Anderson in the overtime, and the sixth shot that Henrik Lundqvist had to face got behind him to end the game.
We aren't doubting the fact that the Rangers have the more talented of these two teams. What we are doubting is whether the hosts are really going to be ready mentally to get back out there and play the role of the huge favorites in spite of the fact that they're firmly behind 3-2 in this series and could see their season end on their home ice.
Expect to see another high-scoring game as we've started to see more and more of lately in this series, and that could be enough to get the Senators into the Eastern Conference Finals.
