Sharks vs. Golden Knights TV Coverage: NBCSN
After an uninspired 5-2 Offshore sportsbooks loss at San Jose in game one the Golden Knights went on to win game two 5-3 at the Shark Tank followed by a 6-3 win in game three at Sin City. The Golden Knights can take a commanding 3-1 series lead into San Jose for game five with a win in Tuesday’s matchup.
A Fleury of Worry
For the past month the Golden Knights have had to deal with the lower body injury and status of top goaltender Marc Andre Fleury. While Fleury has been able to answer the bell in all three games he has not been up to his normal standards of play. Consider that in the first three games of this playoff series Fleury has posted a save percentage of only .897, compared to .913 in the regular season. Fleury’s presence between the pipes is mandatory for Vegas to have a shot at finishing off the Sharks for the second consecutive year in post season.
Jonesin’ for Saves
So far Martin Jones has been a flop in this playoff series with a save percentage of only .849, compared to .896 in the regular season. Jones was pulled in game two due to poor play. Problematic for the Sharks is that they have no other realistic alternative.
Players to Watch
San Jose defenseman Erik Karlsson was one of the most celebrated offseason acquisitions last summer. Karlsson arrived to the Sharks touted as one of the most complete and offensively capable defensemen in the NHL. But the regular season was one filled with injury for the nine-year star out of Sweden in which he posted three goals and 42 assists and a plus six. If San Jose is to survive Karlsson will most certainly be a reason why. Evander Kane scored 30 goals in the regular season but has posted only one goal in this series for the Sharks.
For Vegas right wing Mark Stone has exploded for six goals in this series including a game three hattrick. Center Paul Stastny has also starred for the Golden Knights with two goals, six assists, and a plus four.
The Sharks have shown good ability to get the money on the road. San Jose has won nine of their last 15 games on enemy ice with only two of their last seven away games going over the total. By contrast Vegas has been up and down at the T-Mobile Arena. In fact, the Golden Knights have lost 10 of their last 18 games at home. Seven of the last nine home games for Vegas went over the total.
Head to Head Series
These teams have split their last six games at online sportsbooks with four of those six games going over the total. But at T-Mobile Arena the Golden Knights have won five of their last seven meetings with the Sharks. Five of those seven games between these teams in Sin City have gone over the total.
