The U.S. Open Golf Odds and Predictions

U.S. Open Golf Predictions

The 117th U.S. Open gets underway this week from Erin, Wisconsin at Erin Hills. It will be the first time that the state of Wisconsin hosts a U.S. Open, but the fifth time a major has been played in the Badger State.

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson is the betting favorite but will be challenged by the rest of the elite players in the world. Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth will see plenty of action as will Jason Day, Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm.

Others to keep your eye on include Kevin Kisner, Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, Aussie Adam Scott and Sweden’s Henrik Stenson and Alex Noren.

Venue: Erin Hills measures close to 7,700 yards and will be the second longest layout in U.S. Open history. It’s the sixth public track to host a major and the first course in the state of Wisconsin to host a U.S. Open. Experts say the driving areas are wider than normal for a U.S. Open course which may bode well for the longer hitters.

Last Year: Dustin Johnson finally got the major monkey off his back by winning his first major championship. Despite getting a controversial penalty on the fifth green, DJ took the title three strokes ahead of runners-up Jim Furyk and Scott Piercy.

TV Coverage: Thursday - Friday, 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. ET - FS1, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. ET - FOX. Saturday 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. - ET - FOX. Sunday 11:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. - ET - FOX.

U.S Open Predictions

HORSE for COURSE

Rookie Jon Rahm +1550 is making his first trip to a U.S. Open but don’t let that scare you off. Rahm plays well seemingly every time he tees it up and loves playing on the big stage. The course is really long and the higher ball flight players that bomb the ball have a huge advantage this week. Rahm bombs it, hits it high and has one of the best putting strokes in the world. I like Rahm this week.

LONG SHOT SPECIAL

You know Wisconsin native Steve Stricker +15500 had this date circled on his calendar for a few years and actually had to go through the grueling 36-hole qualifying just to earn a spot. But the stars are aligned for arguably Wisconsin’s all-time best player to play well and be in the mix. It would be a great story to see him win in his home state and that’s why we love sports, for the great stories along the way. At that absurd price, Stricker is worth a look.

STAY AWAY

Two players to stay away from are J.B. Holmes +8100 and Rory McIlroy +900. Holmes is still stinging from his final round 84 at The PLAYERS that saw him go from first to a T41. That has to be in the back of his mind whenever he gets in contention and could haunt him the rest of his career. McIlroy is one of the betting favorites but is battling rib issues that forced him to withdraw from his last two starts. His game will be rusty and anytime a player has health concerns, I’m staying away.

The U.S. Open is scheduled to start June 15-18, 2017 at Erin Hills. Fox and Fox1 will televise the event.
