Golf Matchups - BMW Championship

PGA Tour Predictions

The PGA Tour heads to Lake Forest, Illinois for the BMW Championship where the field has been reduced to 70 players and will be cut to only 30 for next week’s season finale at East Lake. There is also a fight for the top players to grab a spot in the top five. Currently Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are locked into the top three but the other two spots are up for grabs.

Jon Rahm and Hideki Matsuyama are holding on to No. 4 and No. 5, with Rickie Fowler, Paul Casey and Marc Leishman tryin to chase them down. It will come right down to the wire which makes the FedEx Cup Playoffs that much more exciting.

Venue: Conway Farms Golf Club, Lake Forest, Illinois

TV Coverage: Thursday-Friday, 3 - 7 p.m. ET - Golf Channel. Saturday, 1 - 3 p.m. - Golf Channel, 3 - 6 p.m. - NBC. Sunday, noon - 2 p.m. Golf Channel, 2 - 6 p.m. - NBC.

Let’s take a look at the current BMW Championship Golf Matchups

Before we start, make sure you check out all the sportsbooks to get the best price. If you shop around, you would be surprised how different the lines are at each sportsbook.

Jordan Spieth -160 vs. Justin Thomas +140

Arguably the two best players in the world and best friends as well. This matchup should be closer to even either way. Thomas has won five times this year and is playing the best golf in his young career. Spieth is a model of consistency and also on top of his game. Two even players, but not according to the line. I like Thomas and the plus money.

Kevin Chappell PK vs. Phil Mickelson PK

Both players made the President’s Cup team - Chappell finished tenth in the standings to qualify and Mickelson was a captain’s pick. Lefty has more to prove and will free wheel it and when he does that, look out! Mickelson came up with a clutch performance in his last start and the mojo will carry over to this week. I’m taking Mickelson.

Charl Schwartzel PK vs. Francesco Molinari PK

Molinari was hot earlier in the summer but has cooled off in recent weeks. Schwartzel plays solid every week and is due for a top five finish. Current form is key and why I’m taking the South African over the Italian.

Bill Haas PK vs. Tony Finau PK

Haas is currently No. 30 and on the bubble. He knows he needs to play well in order to secure a spot at next week’s TOUR Championship. He played well last week with a top ten, his first top 30 in six starts. Finau has to be bummed that he didn’t make the President’s Cup team after playing so well for most of the year. Most, is the key word as Finau hasn’t played well the past few weeks. Haas is the hungrier player right now and gets the job done in this matchup.

Ryan Moore -120 vs. Ollie Schniederjans EV

Plain and simple - Moore is the better player on a weekly basis. Schniederjans is too erratic to trust. Take Moore and add more money to your account.

Patrick Cantlay -120 vs. Daniel Berger EV

Cantlay has only played 11 events this year and sits at No. 41 in the standings. Berger won earlier in Memphis that helped him secure a spot on the President’s Cup team. Current form favors Cantlay, who leads the Tour in GIR in the Playoffs. Berger is the higher ranked player, but it’s Cantlay that clearly is playing the better golf these days. Cantlay wins this matchup.

The BMW Championship is scheduled to start September 14-17, 2017 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. The Golf Channel and NBC will televise the event.
