BMW Championship Golf Odds and Predictions

PGA Tour Predictions

Five-time winner Justin Thomas and FedEx Cup leader Jordan Spieth headline this week’s 70-man BMW Championship as the PGA Tour winds down with only two tournaments left on the schedule.

After this week only 30 players will be standing for the season’s finale in Atlanta, Georgia. Six rookies are still alive and all 12 members of the President’s Cup team are entered.

Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are locks for the top five heading to East Lake but the last two spots are up for grabs. Jon Rahm and Hideki Matsuyama are currently fourth and fifth but Paul Casey, Rickie Fowler and other are right on their heels.

The fight for the top 30 is also up in the air. Bill Haas is on the bubble at No. 30. In each of the past two years, four men have played their way into the finale after starting the BMW outside the top 30. Veteran Phil Mickelson, who tied for sixth at TPC Boston to advance will become the all-time leader in FedExCup Playoff starts when he tees it up for his 41st postseason event. That breaks a tie with Bubba Watson, who didn’t advance from Boston.

Venue: Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois gets the nod this year. The Tom Fazio design measures 7,208 yards and plays to a par 71. Opened in 1991, it’s carved from farmland in Chicago’s North Shore outskirts and first gained exposure on the amateur stage, starting with the 1997 NCAA Division I championship and 1998 U.S. Junior Amateur. It later hosted the 2009 Western Amateur and 2010 U.S. Mid-Amateur before the PGA TOUR arrived in 2013, so it’s no stranger to hosting big time events.

Last year: Dustin Johnson fired a second round 63 and that proved to be enough to edge Paul Casey and claim his third big win of the summer. It also propelled him to the money title and proved to everyone that he is one of the best players in the world.

PREDICTIONS and ANALYSIS

We may see another showdown between Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson, or maybe, Jon Rahm and Hideki Matsuyama. Don’t sleep on five-time winner Justin Thomas or Rory McIlroy. The cream rises to the top in these big events and I don’t expect that to change. Before we get started, make sure you check out all the sportsbooks to get the best prices.

Patrick Cantlay +3500 sits at No. 41 in the FedEx Cup standings and needs a great finish to creep into the top 30 and advance to East Lake. The former UCLA star has only played 11 events this year and seems to play well every time he tees it up. I think Cantlay contends this week, churning out a great, clutch performance and advances to the season’s finale.

Ollie Schniederjans +12500 also needs a great week to advance. The former No. 1 ranked amateur is on a free roll this week. He has nothing to lose and can pretty much go for broke. He played college golf at Georgia Tech which is where the TOUR Championship is next week. It would be a great story to see him advance and he’s got the talent to do just that. At +12500, he’s worth a play in all formats.

The BMW Championship is scheduled to start September 14-17, 2017 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. The Golf Channel and NBC will televise the event.
