Lyoness Open - Odds and Predictions

Lyoness Open Golf Betting Odds

Chris Wood and homegrown superstar Bernd Wiesberger headline this year’s Lyoness Open. Wood won here in 2015 and Wiesberger triumphed in 2012. Both are the highest ranked players in the field and rightfully so, are the betting favorites. UPDATE: Chris Wood has withdrawn from the tournament.

With the U.S. Open a week away, the field is one of the weaker ones on the European Tour schedule. Other players that could contend include Joost Luiten, Richard Bland, Dylan Frittelli, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Gregory Bourdy.

Last year China's Ashun Wu held off late rallies from Adrian Otaegui and Richard McEvoy to win the tournament by a single shot. All three players finished the day with a score of three under, and Otaegui came within inches of tying things up on the final hole, with a long putt falling just short. Overnight leader Zander Lombard cracked under the pressure, shooting two over to finish outside the top three.

Venue: Diamond Country Club will host this year’s event. The par 72 layout measures 7,417 yards with water in play on 13 of the 18 holes. Designed by Englishman Jeremy Pern, the track is 400 yards longer than when first used in 2010. There are two relatively short par fives in the first four holes, but then two long par fives later in the round, at 15 and 16. Both also feature island greens. One unique quality of the course is that it’s finishing hole is a par three - something that is rare in course design. Veteran Miguel Angel Jimenez met his wife at the event and resides in the area had this to say about the course, “It tests every part of your game.”

Lyoness Open Golf Predictions

The best VALUE on the board is Graeme Storm at +5250. What a turn of events for the veteran - it looked like he might lose his card a year ago, then shazam, he rattles off a win in South Africa to start the year and has never looked back. His T4 in the Alfred Dunhill Championship and T6 in the BMW PGA Championship prove that he can play some solid golf.

Another veteran that is worth consideration is Richard Bland +9500. The Englishman has never missed a cut in Austria, going 13-for-13 on both tour’s. After a stellar 2016, he hasn’t got off to a very good start in 2017, but his past history in Austria can not be overlooked and at that price, he’s worth a look in all formats.

The Lyoness Open golf tournament is scheduled to start June 8-11, 2017 at Diamond Country Club. The Golf Channel will televise the event.
