Titans vs. Colts TV Coverage: CBS
With DeMarco Murray leading the way on the ground and forcing opposing defenses to respect the run, second year quarterback Marcus Mariota has really blossomed throwing for 2,482 yards and a 21:8 TD/INT ratio. The offense has really flourished over the last three weeks in racking up 36, 35 and 47 points against the Jaguars, Chargers and Packers respectively.
Only rookie Ezekiel Elliott has logged more rushing yards than the veteran Murray, but with the Colts conceding nearly 115 yards per game on the ground, it’s likely DeMarco eats into that deficit with the Cowboys set to square off against the Ravens stout rush D this weekend. The Titz RB1 was taken out of the game numerous times in the first meeting due to game script, but still got 25 carries and turned them into 107 yards and a score. Mike Mularkey would be wise to run him into the ground with 30+ carries this week.
The Colts have a ton of work to do if in fact they’re to get back in the game and lay claim as the best team the AFC South has to offer. It’s already incurred losses to both Houston and Jacksonville, but if Indy finds a way to sweep the regular season rivalry with Tennessee, it likely wouldn’t have to worry about Mariota and company the rest of the way provided it takes care of its own business.
Last we saw the Colts in live action, they went into Lambeau Field and handed the Packers an ugly 31-26 defeat as 7.5 point underdogs. The same team the Titans just trounced last week 47-25 as 3 point home underdogs. Andrew Luck had been extremely quiet in the two games leading up to the team’s bye. He amassed just 491 total passing yards with a 3:3 TD/INT ratio. One of his biggest games of the season did however come versus the Titans in Week 7 whom he gouged for 353 yards and three touchdowns.
The Titans found themselves in an enviable position of ending their ugly nine game losing streak to the Colts in the first go round. Linemakers expected them to win lining them as 4 point home chalk. They got out to a 6-0 lead and later took a 23-20 lead with just over six minutes remaining, but allowed Indianapolis to score the game’s final two touchdowns and fell 34-26 to incur a tenth straight loss to their division rivals.
The 60 combined points saw the over cash in the third straight meeting. The Titans last scored a win at Indy back in December of 2007 and a pointspread win back in January of 2011. It’s been a long time since the Titz have experienced any sort of success against their division rivals.
Titans vs. Colts Free Picks
It almost seemed as if the Titans didn’t know what to expect from the Colts offensively the first time around. The defense failed to show in a big way, while the offense also failed miserably when it mattered most. The betting public is lining up in droves to hit the over on the odds at BookMaker.eu in this second meeting with the line already up half a point and nearly 74 percent of the tickets written expecting a high scorer. I got an inkling this one plays out a bit differently.
Turnovers didn’t play a role in the first meeting, but this is a matchup of teams ranked No. 20 and 21 in turnover differential. Look for some miscues to prevent some points from going on the board, and for the Titans to finally put an end to that ugly losing streak.
